Covid-19 is a virus that is still fairly new to medical science, so there is still a lot we don’t know yet. Now, as a review Webconsultas, a new study has determined the relationship between the incidence of viruses and environmental noise.

This research carried out by Spanish scientists indicates that Noise generates a series of effects on the body that make it more vulnerable to the ravages of the Covid-19, which affects the severity with which the virus can develop in the person.

Study development

Spanish scientists Julio Díaz and Cristina Linares, from the Carlos III Health Institute’s National School of Health, led the research that analyzes the relationship between the incidence and severity of Covid-19 with respect to environmental noise.

The study, published in the journal Environmental Research, indicates that noise is a pollutant that has an impact on health similar to atmospheric and chemical pollution.

As noise pollution is a risk factor in the worsening of diseases, the scientists decided to study the influence of different variables related to noise on the behavior of Covid-19.

The scientists analyzed mean noise pollution levels, both daily and averaged over a period of 14 days. In addition, they addressed the figures of hospital admissions, ICU admissions, and mortality associated with the disease.

The models obtained in the research indicate that noise is associated with a higher incidence of Covid-19 and more hospital admissions and ICU admissions. However, in the investigation, it was determined that noise did not cause increased mortality.

With these results, the researchers concluded that noise was a contributing factor in the incidence and severity of Covid-19 during the first viral wave that occurred in the Community of Madrid, where the research was carried out.

Environmental noise and immune system

Environmental noise is a stressor, and several studies indicate that stress has an impact on people’s immunity. This would be one of the explanations why environmental noise would be related to a greater severity of Covid-19.

Environmental noise is a stressor, and several studies indicate that stress has an impact on people’s immunity. This would be one of the explanations why environmental noise would be related to a greater severity of Covid-19.

On the other hand, a noisy environment impairs the quality of rest and causes sleep disturbances that, consequently, have a profound impact on the immune system and oxidative stress.

Based on this, it is very important that people are in peaceful environments so that, if we get Covid-19, our immune system is not diminished due to environmental noise.
