Ducati DesertX, without borders – Information

In recent years, the segment of trail bikes is experiencing a real boom. Few motorcycle brands, not scooters, remain that do not have a motorcycle of this type in their catalog. And this same boom is reflected in the number of events such as the Adventure Experienceroutes like Rodibook off-roadand specialized companies such as Twin Trail that offer all kinds of services, from courses to trips and even have a team that has competed in the Dakar. In this scenario will come this year the Ducati DesertX, the commitment of the Italian firm in the maxitrail segment with an ‘off-road’ orientation.

The arrival on the market of the DesertX was going to fall like ripe fruit after the excellent acceptance of the prototype presented in 2019. A motorcycle with a design that is inspired by the enduro models of the 80s with a decoration as evocative as the Cagiva that they ran the Dakar rally in Lucky Strike colours.

The DesertX is a model designed to enjoy off-road. This is how its components and configuration are understood, such as the 21-inch front wheel and the 18-inch rear with Pirelli Scorpion Rally tires STR that improve behavior away from the asphalt, the presence of a fork Kayaba multi-adjustable with bars of 46 millimeters in diameter and 230 millimeters of travel that allow you to place the free height to the ground of the motorcycle in 250 millimeters. Without leaving the cycle part, the braking is signed by Brembo with two discs in front of 320 millimeters in diameter and four-piston calipers.

Ergonomics is one of the details that has been most cared for with a seat-footrest-handlebar triangulation that gives its best while riding standing up and offers a good level of comfort even when driving on the highway. Seat height is 875 millimeters although they have a kit to lower the suspension and a low seat in case it is necessary. With a tank of gasoline 21 liters and another eight-liter extra tank (sold as an accessory) provides remarkable autonomy.

The DesertX arrives powered by the Testastretta 11° engine with liquid cooling of 937cc and delivers 110 CV at 9,250 rpm and a maximum torque of 92 Nm at 6,500 rpm under Euro5 homologation, in short, a propeller already known in other models such as the Monster and Multistrada V2 but with a specific gearbox.

It also highlights the electronics with six driving modes that intervene in the delivery of power and driving aids such as ABS when cornering, traction control, anti-wheelie (prevents the front wheel from lifting when accelerating), engine braking and gear shift assistant, among others. The instrument panel where all this information is displayed, and more, is a five-inch TFT screen in vertical layout for better viewing while driving while standing. In short, the DesertX, with a dry weight of 202 kilos, is destined to become the object of desire for lovers of this type of motorcycle. Ducati has announced that will arrive in spring and the official price is not yet known.
