Good news for fans of ‘The Lord of the Rings’: Electronics Arts has announced the development of a video game based on the trilogy written by JRR Tolkien. The new title, to be called ‘The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-Earth‘, will come exclusively to mobile devices under the modality free-to-play.
The project, which is the result of a collaboration between Electronic Arts and Middle-earth Enterprises, will come to life thanks to the work of EA Capital Games, a developer based in Sacramento, California, whose portfolio includes the successful RPG with a collectible system ‘Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes’ released in November 2015.
An amateur game is on the way
The company explains in a press release that ‘The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-Earth’ “will carry the fantasy and adventure of ‘The Lord of the Rings’ to existing fans already new audiences alike”. We’re talking about a title that promises an immersive storya system of collectibles and turn-based combat.
That is, throughout the game, as they explain, we will meet some of the most iconic characters in the franchise, as well as experience events and battles related to eradicating the great evils of Middle-earth.
Although it will be a mobile title, Electronics Arts says that this will have high quality graphics, cinematic animations and stylized art that will help deliver that immersive experience they’re talking about.
The truth is that we will still have to wait to take a first look at it. The game is in full development and we do not have official images of it. However, it is expected that at some point this summer the first beta will be released in some countries.
It should be noted that ‘Heroes of Middle-earth’ will not be the first game set in the Lord of the Rings universe for iOS and Android devices. Fans can currently play titles such as ‘The Hobbit Kingdoms of Middle-earth’, ‘Middle-earth: Shadow of War’, ‘The Lord of the Rings: Legends of Middle-earth’ and ‘The Lord of the Rings Rise to War’.

Let’s remember that Middle-earth Enterprises is also involved in another game. This is ‘The Lord of the Rings: Gollum’. This title, unlike the one announced today, will be focused on video game consoles and computers. It was announced in March 2019 and was scheduled for release in 2021, but was pushed back to 2022.
