The Junta de Extremadura allocates 15 million euros to the implementation of interactive digital classrooms or classrooms of the future, a project that works to take advantage of the possibilities offered by new technologies in the education sector.

The Governing Council of the Board has approved this Wednesday the tender to carry out this project, which is financed by European recovery funds. This improvement will reach 460 Infant and Primary schools, 4,322 classrooms and more than 90,000 students in the region.

This contract will only be for public schools, but the regional Executive indicates that in a few weeks there will be a specific call for concerted schools, which are also supported by public funds. Likewise, there will be a contract for Secondary, which will reach 100% of the students in the region.

The spokesperson for the Junta de Extremadura, Juan Antonio González, explained that the objective is for each classroom to have a digital whiteboard, which will renew the equipment that has been installed in the region over the last decade. They will also have equipment that includes things such as virtual reality glasses, robotics materials and digital microscopes.

González recalled that this action is part of the National Plan for Digital Skills, for which Extremadura will receive 47 million euros. Around 4.2 million euros are already in the implementation phase with the announcement of a tender for the purchase of 7,648 laptops and 952 tablets. Likewise, there are funds allocated to the digital competence of teachers so that they can be trained and accredit their knowledge. But most of it will be for the actions started today with the start-up of the digital classrooms.

With this measure it is intended to “go one step further and remain at the forefront of digital skills in education”, he added. González highlighted the commitment to new technologies in the field of education that the region has maintained in recent decades.

In addition to this matter, the Government Council has approved a decree for the regulation of access systems, provision of jobs and mobility of the Local Police. This rule contemplates the figure of the single court, which will allow grouping the calls for vacancies held in the region.

Juan Antonio González has highlighted that in this way a historical demand of mayors and candidates for these positions is met. The objective is that, in the first two months of each year, the municipalities communicate their job offers and the Board is in charge of calling the exams with a common agenda. Access to jobs would be carried out in order of points after passing the training course at the Extremadura Public Safety Academy. The Board’s spokesman added that an extraordinary call is planned for the end of this year.

Finally, the regional government has approved a decree that develops aid for rehabilitation actions at the neighborhood level in Extremadura. At the same time, the single call for just over 6.4 million euros is authorized. It is intended for municipalities with less than 50,000 inhabitants and will allow actions in private homes and also for the regeneration of urban areas.

This call will be completed with three agreements to execute this program in towns with more than 50,000 inhabitants in the region. Specifically, Badajoz will receive 1.7 million euros, Cáceres about 1.2 million and Mérida will have 682,000 euros. Juan Antonio González has pointed out that the objective of this program is to reach 600 energetically rehabilitated homes in the community.
