Two of Africa’s best meet in the first leg of their African World Cup qualifier playoff series as Liverpool teammates Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah face off once again in a high-stakes international showdown.
In a repeat of the African Cup of Nations final, Egypt face off against Senegal almost seven weeks after Mane fired in the winning penalty to see his side lift the African title.
That game was a tense and nervy affair and this one should follow a similar pattern, given the prize of playing at the world’s biggest sporting event is up for grabs.
Neither team has played since that final, and they will now face each other two more times within the space of a few days to decides who gets the golden ticket to Qatar. The first leg comes from Cairo, as Senegal travel to Egypt.
Mohamed Salah has played more games alongside Sadio Mané (210) than any other team-mate in his career. 🫂
Mo has played against Mané three times… and never won.
This time, a place in the World Cup is on the line. 😤
