Egypt vs. Senegal live score, updates, highlights & lineups from 2022 World Cup qualifier playoff


Two of Africa’s best meet in the first leg of their African World Cup qualifier playoff series as Liverpool teammates Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah face off once again in a high-stakes international showdown.

In a repeat of the African Cup of Nations final, Egypt face off against Senegal almost seven weeks after Mane fired in the winning penalty to see his side lift the African title. 

That game was a tense and nervy affair and this one should follow a similar pattern, given the prize of playing at the world’s biggest sporting event is up for grabs.

Neither team has played since that final, and they will now face each other two more times within the space of a few days to decides who gets the golden ticket to Qatar. The first leg comes from Cairo, as Senegal travel to Egypt.

39th Min: Fired over from Mane! Sadio Mane makes his first impact on the game as he breaks through the Egypt midfield reaching the edge of the box but fires over!

36th Min: Senegal put together a few minutes of pressure on the Egyptian defence but could not manage a shot on target. 

31st Min: YELLOW CARD FOR EGYPT – Hamad Fathi is carded for a late tackle outside of his own box. Free Kick for Senegal in a dangerous position!

25th Min: Half a chance for Mostafa Mohamed after Salah crosses well but Mostafa’s header was easily caught by Edouard Mendy.

20th Min: No chances since the goal, as the game has settled down, but chances are a premium so far!

6th Min: A through ball for Mohamad Salah was brilliantly controlled by the Liverpool man, who fired against the cross-bar from the chance, but the rebound hit Saliou Ciss and there was nothing he could do to stop the ball from going into his own net! What a start for the home side!
