The Elda City Council, through the Department of Equality and the Sectorial Council for Women and for Equality, has scheduled a series of events on the occasion of the celebration of November 25, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. Woman. The Elda University Venue, the Elda Rural Women’s Center and the Elda Valley Integrated Center also participate in the program.

Alba Garcia, Councilor for Equality, explained that “This year, due to the pandemic, the activities will be online and through social networks, but the local government did not want to stop commemorating this day and talking about the importance of eliminating violence against women.”

The mayor has stated that “The first activity will be a short film contest with gender equality as a theme and which is aimed at young people between 16 and 25 years old. Then, at the end of next week we will present the municipal campaign against gender and sexist violence, with the slogan ‘Men who add up’, with which we want to influence that it is possible to change the sexist mentality and we encourage men to that they join to achieve equality “.

On November 25 there will be, as every year, the reading of a manifesto as a rejection of this violence that affects us all as a society. The Hipatia Award, launched last month, will also be presented and the winners of the III Contest of Micro-stories on Gender Violence of the CIPFP Valle de Elda will read them.

That same day, from the University Headquarters of Elda, two online conferences are organized: one in the morning, ‘Women and men, humor and vice versa’, by Belén Alvarado, at 09.50 am and you can connect through Google Meet. In the afternoon, at 8:00 p.m., ‘Gender violence in the cinema’, by Israel Gil.

Alba García added that “On November 26 we organized from the Department of Equality and the Rural Women Center of Elda an online workshop entitled ‘Minors, invisible victims of gender violence’. It will be at 6:00 p.m. and interested persons can register at the email [email protected] And on November 27 an online cinema forum of the movie ‘I give you my eyes’ will be held, at 6:00 p.m. with registration in the same email”.

The Councilor for Equality has stated that “from the local government we continue working on prevention to eradicate this social scourge and we will continue to comply with the State Pact against Gender Violence.” Lastly, the mayor of Elda, Ruben Alfaro, and the mayor Alba García, have proceeded to place this midday on one of the balconies of the Town Hall a banner on the occasion of the commemoration of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
