Elon Musk and Peter Thiel go way back but AOC’s tweet wasn’t about them

US Rep. Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez’s recent tweet about a ‘billionaire with ego problem’ and his connection to Peter Thiel was extremely misunderstood. While many thought it was a dig at Elon Musk, she was actually talking about someone else.

The politician took to Twitter on Friday, April 29, and talked about how there was an explosion of hate crimes on social media. She took an aim at a billionaire who owns a giant social media platform and blamed them for the collective stress about the hate crimes.

AOC wrote, “Tired of having to collectively stress about what explosion of hate crimes is happening bc some billionaire with an ego problem unilaterally controls a massive communication platform and skews it because Tucker Carlson or Peter Thiel took him to dinner and made him feel special.”

Given Elon’s latest purchase of Twitter, many, including the Tesla boss himself, thought that the 32-year old’s comments were aimed at him.

How do Elon Musk and Peter Thiel know each other?

The Tesla CEO and the German-American venture capitalist go way back.

Back in 2000, a 28-year-old Elon had sold his first start-up for $22 million and was working on a grandiose business scheme: X.com, an internet-based megabank aiming to remake the global financial system.

But, his plans to make X.com the next big thing were blocked by Peter’s software company, Confinity. The competition between them became cutthroat and the two began discussing a “shotgun marriage.”

Then, in March 2000, Elon took Peter for a spin in his new 627-horsepower McLaren F1 and they met with an accident. It is reported that the crash could have killed both Elon and Peter, but thankfully, the two came out of it unscathed.

In the spring of 2000, after the crash, both Elon and Peter agreed to merge their two companies under the banner of X.com, which later became Paypal.

AOC’s tweet about ‘billionaire with ego problem’ gets misunderstood

Democratic Party Rep. AOC had her say about the hate crimes occurring on social media in her recent tweet.

However, the fact that she didn’t name the billionaire she was taking a dig at confused many Twitter users, who thought she was firing shots at Elon Musk.

Soon, the politician was treated with a barrage of comments, some of which called her out for having a go at Elon, while others supported her.

The Tesla CEO was quick to respond to her tweet. Elon’s witty and humorous reply left many users in splits.

The billionaire wrote: “Stop hitting on me, I’m really shy.”

However, AOC cleared it up in a now-deleted tweet that she was talking about Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, not Elon.

“I was talking about Zuckerberg but ok,” wrote the politician before deleting her tweet.

Celebs react to Elon Musk buying Twitter

Celebs had varied reactions to Elon’s Twitter purchase. While some like Ice Cube, Ice T and Scooter Braun welcomed the move, Jameela Jamil wasn’t too pleased.

“Free at last! @elonmusk take off my shadow ban homie…” said Ice Cube
