The number of unemployed registered in the offices of the public employment services (former Inem) fell by 197,841 unemployed in July (-5.47%), which represents the largest drop in any month in the historical series and exceeds those of the months of May and June that also closed with record falls, according to data published this Tuesday by the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy.

Thus, registered unemployment in Services fell by 133,658 people (-5.29%); in the group Without Previous Employment it fell by 31,991 people (-9.46%); in Industry it fell by 13,158 people (-4.60%); in Construction it did so by 10,154 fewer people (-3.62%) and in Agriculture it decreased by 8,880 people (-4.82%).
According to Labor, the level of unemployment registered in the Industry was lower than at the beginning of the pandemic. In absolute terms, registered unemployment in July fell more among women, with 104,891 fewer unemployed (-4.94%) compared to the previous month. The total number of women unemployed is 2,017,719.
In addition, male unemployment stands at 1,398,779, falling by 92,950 men (-6.23%). Similarly, registered unemployment fell in the seventh month in all autonomous communities. In absolute terms, the largest falls corresponded to Andalusia (-69,159 people), Catalonia (-37,548 people) and the Canary Islands (-20,374).
In fact, according to Trabajo, six autonomous communities and the autonomous city of Melilla have fewer registered unemployment than at the beginning of the health crisis. On the other hand, 1,838,250 contracts were registered in July, of which 165,500 were permanent, 9% of all contracts.
The Ministry has also reported that the benefit expense reached 2,064.9 million euros in June (latest data available), of which 427 million corresponded to benefits for workers in ERTE, following the trend of reduction of this item, as highlighted by Work.
