European recap: Conte infuriated by Inter’s late slip, Dembélé ready for Atlético | Football

Inter de Milan Coach Antonio Conte said that the anxiety of his players influenced the late tying goal at Rome in a 2-2 draw in Serie A.

The Milanese team struck twice in an electric start of the second half at the Stadio Olimpico to counterattack after going back before the break. But they faded after moving on and came under late pressure, with Gianluca Mancini finally leading a draw in the 86th minute.

“I think at the end of the game there was a little bit of anxiety about getting a big result, which mentally makes you go deeper,” Conte said. “At the bench we asked them to press high on the pitch, because sitting deep is not a good thing. But the fact is that on a psychological level, the losing team leaps forward and the winning team seeks to hold on to the result. Conte eliminated striker Lautaro Martínez, midfielder Arturo Vidal and striker Achraf Hakimi after his team went ahead. “This is our third game in seven days, so you make changes,” Conte said.

Inter are second in the Serie A standings with 37 points, three behind their city rivals Milan, and Roma in third with 34.

Tiemoue Bakayoko topped a winner on the last gasp as Naples got a 2-1 win in Udinese to go up to the fifth.

The VAR came to the aid of the visitors early on after the field officials missed a flagrant foul on Hirving Lozano in the area, and the referee awarded a penalty converted by Lorenzo Insigne in the 15th minute.

However, the hosts were much better, drawing through Kevin Lasagna, who took advantage of a pass from Amir Rrahmani before scoring in the 27th minute.

Udinese continued to offer more attacking threat in the second half, but against the streak of the game Bakayoko, on loan from Chelsea, appeared with a header in the 90th minute.

In the Bundesliga, Stuttgart crossed past 10 men Augsburg 4-1 on Sunday to secure a first win in four Bundesliga games and climb to 10th place in the standings.

Dembélé, on loan from Lyon to Atlético

Atlético de Madrid are in talks with Olympique Lyonnais to sign French striker Moussa Dembélé on a loan until the end of the season, said the Ligue 1 club’s sporting director Juninho.

Atlético are looking to sign a forward to further their charge for the La Liga title after Diego Costa left the club this month.

Dembélé, 24, has scored 31 Ligue 1 goals in his first two seasons with Lyon since switching from Celtic, but has only made six league starts this season, scoring once.

Juninho said Dembélé had asked him if he could move, adding that the forward had agreed personal terms with Atlético but the clubs were still negotiating.

“He told me that he had lost motivation a bit. Moussa is a player that I really like and that we had. But keeping someone who doesn’t want to live a real, intense life for the next five months is not ideal, ”Juninho said.
