Even if you don’t see it, it’s here: how the 20 cents/liter aid is actually applied to your deposit

From today, April 1, fuels will be subsidized at 20 cents/liter for the final consumer. The Government’s measure to cushion the rise in gasoline and diesel prices is already applied at all service stations, even if you don’t see it reflected on the posters.

Measure. Announced last Tuesday, drivers will pay 20 cents/liter less from April 1 to June 30. The decision comes after the Government reached an agreement with the carriers to lift a strike that, at the moment, continues for the National Platform for the Defense of Transport, the first organizers of the protest.

For the application of this measure, the Government will face the payment of 15 cents/liter of the final invoice. That is, 75% of the discount. The remaining five cents/liter will have to be assumed by the service stations so that the final consumer sees the total 20 cents/liter discounted. A decision that has elevated the complaints of the National Association of Automatic Service Stations, which represents low cost gas stations.

But if it is at the same price! One of the phrases that you may hear throughout the day. And yes, if we only look at the price of the posters, it is easy for us to fall into error. And it is that they show the final price of fuel, but not the reduction subsidized by the Government. We will only see this when we have refueled.

We will have to fill our deposit to finally see the reduction of 20 cents/liter announced this week reflected. In the final ticket we will see the price of fuel (taxes included), a specific section for the fuel reduction and, finally, the price to be paid by the consumer.

more expensive than ever. The rise in fuel prices in recent days is not going to eat up the government subsidy, but it is true that fuels have experienced such an upturn that they have once again set record highs. The same discount will continue to be offered, but it will have less impact than just a few days ago.

As stated in the latest report from the European Commission, the average price of Spanish diesel and gasoline stands at 1,837 and 1,818 euros/litre, respectively. Yes, for the first time diesel is more expensive than gasoline in our country, despite the fact that its taxes are lower. In the case of gasoline it is an increase of 0.28% but in that of diesel it is 2.26% compared to last week.

The transition to the electric car has a huge problem in the short term: this graph

guarded. With the aim that the service stations do not pass on the five cents/liter that they have to contribute to final consumers with artificial increases in their prices, the Government has put the National Commission of Markets and Competition (CNMC) to study the behavior thereof. In fact, its president, Cani Fernández, has assured that they know “the prices of all gas stations, every day” and that they have established “a much more intense surveillance system.”
