Extremadura, second region that executes the most budget in the reconversion of vineyards

Extremadura is the second region of the country that has executed the largest budget in terms of the application of the vineyard restructuring and reconversion measure, almost 12.71% in the 2021 financial year. During this period, the budget allocated to this measure has been 8,153,398 euros. At this point, the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, Population and Territory highlights the increase of two million euros with respect to the initial allocation.

Likewise, it is one of the main autonomous communities that have made advance payments in that same year, with 54.86%.

On the other hand, Extremadura is the third community with the largest area affected by restructuring and reconversion, with 1,218.90 hectares, which represents 7.69% of the national total.

In this sense, from the Ministry of Agriculture it has been highlighted that with this aid it is intended to increase the competitiveness of wine producers, adapting production to market demand and reducing cultivation costs, through support for three activities : reimplantation of the vineyard, varietal reconversion and improvement of vineyard management techniques.

In this way, the quality of the grapes is increased to obtain higher quality wines, in addition to improving vineyard management techniques through the conversion of the glass to trellis system.

Nine million euros for reconversion of vineyards

The Official Gazette of Extremadura (DOE) published last Thursday the call for aid for the restructuring and reconversion of the vineyard in Extremadura corresponding to the 2022/2023 campaign, with an amount of nine million euros.

The call is divided into two annuities, so eight million euros have been allocated for the year 2022 and one million euros for 2023.

These aids are intended for varietal reconversion, the replanting of vineyards and the improvement of their management techniques. Viticulturists may opt for them, whether natural or legal persons, whose vineyards are used for the production of grapes for winemaking.

The funds of these aids will be fully financed with the European Agricultural Guarantee Fund (FEAGA) and will have the condition of being extended or reduced depending on the recognized rights or income commitments, so they may be increased in the case of future allocations from the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food to this region to finance this aid. In this case, an announcement will be published in the Official Gazette of Extremadura with the amount available.

The deadline for submitting applications will be fifteen business days from the day following the publication of the Call Resolution and this extract in the DOE.
