Extremaduran supermarkets begin to receive merchandise

There is still a lack of products and raw materials due to the road strike supported by the majority of carriers, but in some sectors they are beginning to see the light and can release their production, as is the case with food. The fuels, on the other hand, are arriving at the service stations, but with delay and if a solution is not found, the people of the countryside will be the most affected. As for the metallic supplies that are used, above all, to make the workshops work, there are not too many problems due to the distribution formula, which is not usually in large trucks. As for the supply of medicines to pharmacies, this has already been normalized. The ninth day that many drivers have stopped driving has once again shown that almost all consumption is linked to transport. This was the situation yesterday in three basic sectors.

food to supermarkets

In food there has been a turning point since yesterday and most supermarkets are restocking because more trucks are already circulating on the road. As explained this Tuesday Óscar Marín, head of Lider Aliment with 110 Spar franchises plus 15 Eurospar (larger size) in Extremadura, «today (Tuesday) a step forward has been taken and many companies and freelancers decided to hit the road, which It has facilitated the replenishment of supermarkets to which merchandise did not arrive, since this week what there have been have been slow marches to hinder traffic, but the coercive level has decreased and there is less pressure from pickets towards drivers.

However, this does not mean that the situation in the food sector has returned to normal. “The problem is that you have to refill stores that have been out of stock for more than a week and that is not done overnight. In addition, there are manufacturers that still do not ship merchandise and the level of collection that can be done in warehouses is lower », he points out.

On the other hand – continues the person in charge and Leader Aliment – there is still a lack of products such as milk, water, fruit and vegetables because in these cases the chain has been broken at the beginning. Likewise, Mercamadrid, as a large supplier of fresh products, calculates that it is still at 50% (according to the data of this large distributor, he calculates that the index is lower) and a large part of its production is dedicated to export, so that towards communities such as Extremadura has little traffic of full trucks.

fuel to gas stations

Fuel is another product that this Monday began to be scarce and this worried a large part of the population. Fernando Mena, president of the Regional Service Station Entrepreneurs Association (Aresex), said yesterday that the situation was neither better nor worse than the day before, when some suppliers began to see the message that they could not serve the customer due to lack of of supply. «It’s the same, some tanker trucks arrive, and in the case of Aresex, most of our eighty associations have a ‘flag’ from a multinational such as Cepsa or Repsol and then it is easier to supply because the oil companies have their own trucks. However, those that do not have a ‘flag’, called ‘white’ gas stations among us, are having some problem, as are some cooperatives or gas centers, which are the ones that feed boilers or farms that have large deposits for their machinery, and in these cases the trucks are not coming out.”

Mena hopes that everything will return to normal shortly and, as summarized by the president of Aresex, “at the moment there is no shortage of fuel, what is happening is delay and it is due to the fact that in many small towns where the ‘white’ gas stations are ‘ These entrepreneurs have to buy the product they sell on the one hand and then contract transport on the other.

According to Mena, in addition to diesel for heating, agricultural diesel is the one that is most scarce, but it is not being demanded right now. “With the rain, the farmers have not yet started the tractors, the problem will be in a few days.”

Spare parts to workshops

At the moment everything is arriving at the workshops, or at least what is essential, to continue working with a certain normality. This was stated yesterday by Cristóbal Maza, manager of the Association of Metal Entrepreneurs in Extremadura (Aspremetal), which among other types of businesses represents vehicle workshops. “This transport crisis is affecting, but it is not one of the sectors in which it is having the most repercussion because a lot of replacement goes through other routes and in general it does not move in large trailers but by courier services,” Maza said on Tuesday.

On the other hand, it is true, he acknowledged, that trailers do not go to the distribution logistics centers in Mérida or Badajoz, but they solve it by supplying themselves with three large vans, which would be the equivalent.

Medicines to pharmacies

Last week there were vans with medicines that were stoned, but at present this merchandise is reaching pharmacies without problems, according to what the president of the College of Pharmacists of Badajoz, Cecilio Venegas, indicated yesterday.

As he explained, the escort of the Civil Guard when they have requested it, changing the schedules to avoid pickets and that they allow the vehicle to continue as soon as they see that it is transporting medicines has served so that the medicines flow normally today in the region.
