Teddy Bridgewater injury update

UPGRADE: Bridgewater was a limited participant in Thursday practice, and the hope is that he will be officially released from the concussion protocol on Friday.

Bridgewater (concussion) I was out of practice on Wednesday but he returned to team meetings. It is always difficult to speculate on concussions, so we will continue to monitor the latest reports and information. However, Vic Fangio said he could be a limited participant in Thursday’s practice. You would have to think that he has a decent chance to play if he practices, given the injury. If he can’t play, Drew Lock will revert to Denver’s starter.

Whether it’s Bridgewater or Lock, both must remain in your bank. This offense looked average against Baltimore and the same can be expected on the road against Pittsburgh. Either one will be lower-tier options for Week 5. More important is how Denver’s other skills players will be affected. Bridgewater gives Courtland Sutton, Tim Patrick and Noah Fant better catching chances, but Lock gives each better chances on a big play. In general, they have more value if Bridgewater is in the center. The same is true for the RBs, as Denver will likely be able to hold the units better with Bridgewater.

Jimmy Garoppolo injury update

Garoppolo (calf) I don’t practice on Wednesday, but he hasn’t been ruled out for Week 5 against Arizona. When his injury first happened, it was thought that he would be out for several weeks. The injury is less serious, but the 49ers now face a decision. If a limping Jimmy G can go, do you start it or start the Trey Lance era? There are a lot of factors at play here (especially with SF having a Week 6 break), and it’s best to keep an eye out before Sunday. If Lance starts off, we like his fantasy perspectives better with his rushed floor and high ceiling. Jimmy G could always have a good game with those weapons in SF, but Lance has another level that he can go to.

All that said, if Lance starts, it’s our QB19 this week. However, his advantage is greater than that of some of the quarterbacks ranked ahead of him. It’s a possible high-risk, high-reward play in what Arizona will attempt to turn into a high-scoring competition. Both would have a similar effect on the rest of San Francisco’s offensive players, as Lance might be more inconsistent but potentially better suited to holding units.
