Christian McCaffrey injury update

McCaffrey pinched his hamstring in Week 3, and many thought he was an RI candidate; however, he could return in Week 5 after just an absence from a game. He took the practice field on Wednesday and apparently he looked healthy. That said, probably may play, but we’ll see what the Panthers decide to do with him. It is a long season of 17 games and we are in the early stages of the year. The Panthers are 3-1 and face a struggling Eagles team, so they may choose to sit it down one more game as a precaution.

If it starts, you shouldn’t hesitate to place it in your lineups. Even if the Panthers play him in a limited role, he can still produce a solid line. If they start it up and use it sparingly, it will be unfortunate, but its advantage makes it worth the chance of getting burned. If he’s out, Chuba Hubbard is still the leader in Carolina this week. We rank him RB25 in PPR and RB21 in standard leagues if CMC is a scratch in Week 5.

Will Christian McCaffrey play Week 5?

Like McCaffrey, early reports indicated that Mixon (ankle) could be lost for a few weeks. Nevertheless, despite missing practice on WednesdayMixon has yet to be ruled out for Week 5 against Green Bay. It will probably be a game-time decision, so it’s best to keep an eye on the latest news. We will update your section of the publication as we receive more information and reports.

If healthy, Green Bay has been an intermediate team against the RBs in fantasy, but Mixon has been the most productive race they will face this year. We like Mixon in RB10 in PPR and RB9 in standard leagues. If he’s out, Samaje Perine is in line to be the lead running back, but we have to think Cincinnati will make more passes in this game. Plus, Perine could share the workload with Chris Evans. Perine should be seen as a flexible option in this case.

Elijah Mitchell injury update

Mitchell (shoulder) was a limited participant in Wednesday practice and he could come back this week against Arizona. The Cardinals have been in the top 10 in defense against fantasy running backs, so the showdown is a tough question in their first action game in two weeks. Arizona scores points in groups, forcing rival teams to air it out to keep up. However, the Niners would like to hit the ball and keep Kyler Murray off the field, so this game could play out either way.

All that said, given the injury and unknown game scripts, Mitchell ranks as our RB26 in standard leagues and RB26 in PPR. If he’s out, Trey Sermon will get another higher number of carries and should be ranked slightly below Mitchell.
