WEEK 14 FANTASY: Sleepers | Busts | Get started, feel them

Elijah Mitchell injury update

Mitchell (knee, head) I don’t practice on Wednesday and had a knee MRI in the middle of the week. He’s still on concussion protocol, so he could miss the game against the Bengals for that reason, but knee ailment could leave him out as well. Ultimately, it’s hard to know how this will play out right now, and it will likely be a close-to-Sunday decision.

Jeff Wilson Jr. (knee) is also at risk of missing this game, so if both players are out, JaMycal Hasty would presumably handle a heavy workload. If Mitchell is out, but Wilson is in, Wilson could carry the load or it could be a committee with Hasty. Overall, it’s a tough situation to navigate, unless Mitchell plays. Mitchell ranks as our RB10 in standard and RB9 in the PPR leagues if he can go, and he would be the only 49ers running back worth considering.

Darrell Henderson injury update

Henderson (quad) was active through Week 13 against the Jaguars, but didn’t play a single snap and ultimately left a bunch of fancy owners with a chicken egg on the score sheet. With the Rams playing Monday night, there is no information yet on his status for this week, but the Rams were prepared to use him last week in an emergency situation. Presumably, he will play and contribute against the Cardinals, but we can’t be sure.

If Henderson does play, it will be a tough matchup in Arizona, and Sony Michel will likely eat up some of his carries. For those reasons, we have him at RB24 in the standard leagues and at RB25 in PPR leagues.

WEEK 14 PPR RANKINGS:
Field marshal | Running backwards | Wide receiver | Tight end | D / ST | Kicker

David Montgomery Injury Update

Montgomery (shoulder, groin, glutes) I don’t practice on Wednesday, but it is not clear at this time if he is in real danger of missing the game against the Packers. The Bears play Sunday Night Football, so this could be a long and tough situation. Hopefully Thursday’s practice will tell us more.

If Montgomery plays, it’s our RB18 in standard and RB16 in the PPR leagues against a unit in the top 11 to limit fantasy RBs. If he’s out, expect Khalil Herbert to be the lead dog in the backfield as he was earlier this year. It will be located a little below where Montgomery is.

Alvin Kamara injury update

Kamara (knee) was a full participant in practice on Wednesday and is expected to play the Jets. If he adapts, he immediately returns to the RB group that “must start” and should have a good fantasy day against the worst defense in the league against fantasy RBs.

Kamara ranks as our RB3 in the PPR leagues and RB4 in the standard leagues. Since you logged a full practice, we don’t expect it to be limited. Mark Ingram is likely out after being placed on the reserve / COVID roster, so Tony Jones Jr. will be the change of pace, but after a disastrous performance against Buffalo that led to him being a healthy scratch at the Week 13, it’s hard to trust it even as a low-end flex.

D’Andre Swift injury update

Swift (shoulder) I don’t practice on WednesdayAnd while Dan Campbell said he’s improving, he also said Swift is a long shot to play against the Broncos.

Jamaal Williams should be the leading rider for the second week in a row. We like Williams as the RB20 in standard and the RB17 in the PPR leagues. He only drew one goal last week, but we think he should be more in the three-to-five goal range against Denver, giving him a slight boost in PPR formats.

Melvin Gordon injury update

Gordon (hip) was a limited participant in practice on Wednesday, so we will have to see later in the week how things go. There are likely tons of Javonte Williams owners eagerly awaiting Gordon’s status as we head into the weekend.

If Gordon is out, Williams will be a top-10 play against a Detroit defense that gives up the third-most fantasy points per game to the RBs. If Gordon plays, Gordon and Williams should probably start as they both feel like mid-level RB2s. Ultimately, both could end up as RB2 or even RB1, and it’s hard to bank that kind of edge, even at the risk of one going down.
