The president of the Junta de Extremadura, Guillermo Fernández Vara, has appealed this Friday to the responsibility of citizens and has asked them not to act on their own in the face of the fires since the most important thing “is their lives.”

In this sense, he stressed that “no one assumes the slightest risk, that everything else is repairable and rectifiable, but not life.”

During his visit to the sports center in Almaraz (Cáceres), where the people evacuated from Casas de Miravete are, the head of the regional Executive has stated that all resources and all possible efforts will continue to be used against the fires.

Likewise, he has indicated that he has transferred to the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development, Population and Territory, Begoña García, that in case of doubt “you have to evacuate”, “in case of the slightest possibility that there may be risk, we must act with the precautionary principle indisputably and for that we must mobilize what needs to be mobilized ».

Along these lines, he added that “at the slightest indication, we must proceed to the evacuation of towns and localities because we cannot take any risk. That is something that we place at the frontispiece of all our possibilities.”

For Fernández Vara, given the situation and weather conditions, fire takes on greater proportions of causing damage and, therefore, we must protect ourselves against it, since it can not only burn our surroundings, but also destroy many lives.

«It is obvious that when the dryness that is occurring at the moment and the high ambient and soil temperatures occur, everything that represents the forest, the scrub and the mountain becomes an extraordinary explosive and the fire, therefore, passes. to be a brutal enemy,” he said.

The president of the Junta Extremadura has shown the “deep” concern that exists for these serious fires that the region is suffering and has indicated that it is shared by Casa Real and the Government of Spain for how the situation in Extremadura is currently presented and in the whole of the Iberian Peninsula and Europe.

Climate change

On the other hand, the leader of the regional government has stated that “if there is still someone who continues to deny that climate change is serious, they should undergo a deep reflection” and these fires are something that “should make us all reflect”.

Fernández Vara has pointed out that the hardest thing about these fires is, on the one hand, the troops that are fighting the fire and in the conditions that they are doing it with the high temperatures, so it must be valued. And, on the other hand, the people who have been evacuated “who don’t know if they are going to return to their homes, who don’t know what their homes will look like when they return, and all of this has an emotional component of such magnitude that it makes that they need to be by their side to move them so that they do not feel alone».
