The president of the Junta de Extremadura, Guillermo Fernández Vara, affirms that the region “needs industrialization, it is the only way to raise wages.” But he has insisted that after Volkswagen’s resignation to install a battery factory in the community, other projects will come that will provide new opportunities for development in a sector that he considers crucial to overcome the current challenges.

The Extremaduran president has stressed before the plenary session of the Assembly of Extremadura that he has competed until the end to bring this project to the region, which has made it possible to expose the potential of the community and open the door to other investments.

Fernández Vara has responded in this way to the president of the Extremaduran PP, José Antonio Monago, who has asked the Board to assume responsibility for the loss of this project and to take measures to combat the increase in energy and fuel prices, since be it by lowering taxes or demanding decisive action from the Government instead of requesting the intervention of the European Union.

Along the same lines, the spokesman for Ciudadanos, David Salazar, has called for measures to offset the rise in fuel prices and ensure the viability of carriers in the region without the need to dispense with basic services, as other European countries have done. . Otherwise, they will leave the community like frustrated industrial projects and “at this rate only the PSOE will remain.”

On this issue, Fernández Vara has called for unity, as happened to deal with the covid pandemic. In his opinion, the European Union must make decisions and lower the price of energy and hydrocarbons to alleviate the effects of the war in Ukraine. But he has been opposed to lowering the taxes on these products, since in his opinion that reduction “would be eaten by the market in 48 hours.”

The difficulties that the transport sector is going through, but especially the consequences that the rise in energy prices will have for the most vulnerable families, focused the intervention of Irene de Miguel, from United for Extremadura. The coalition spokeswoman has called for changes in the regional budget and to promote self-consumption and local communities to face “the armed robbery of electricity companies.”

On this point, Fernández Vara has stated that carriers “lose less money unemployed than while working”, for which he has recognized that “we cannot continue as we are” and measures are necessary that must have an impact on the State Budget. Likewise, he has pointed out that if necessary there will be modification of items in the regional accounts so that the most vulnerable do not suffer.
