Fox News’ Tucker Carlson Is A Key Media Source He ‘Hates’, Says Columnist | Fox News

Tucker Carlson of Fox News is a “go-to source” for the American political media who claims to “hate” and has called “cowards” and “shameful animals not worthy of respect,” according to a columnist for the New York Times.

Ben Smith, former editor-in-chief of BuzzFeed News, exposed Carlson as “the guy to go to for sometimes unflattering stories about Donald J. Trump and for Fox News coverage of domestic politics (not to mention stories about Carlson himself).”

Carlson has become a star of the pro-Trump right, including calculated in polls about the upcoming Republican presidential nomination, though he said a podcast he won’t run last week, and a hateful figure on America’s left.

Referring to Carlson’s role in stoking the culture wars over Covid-19, Smith wrote that he sidestepped the question of whether he had been vaccinated himself.

Carlson reportedly responded: “When was the last time you had sex with your wife and in what position? … We can exchange intimate details.

“Then we discussed vaccines,” Smith wrote, “and ended the conversation with a friendly invitation to return to his show.”

Smith also cited a leading Washington gossip recycler, Michael Wolff, who has written two revelations about Trumpworld and last week announced a third.

“In Trump’s Washington, Tucker Carlson is a primary super-secret source,” Smith quoted Wolff in a new book of essays. “I know this because I know what he has told me, and I can trace his exquisite gossip, too good to not be true, through unsourced reports and how often they emerge in accepted wisdom.”

Smith also cited a popular book by Wall Street Journal reporter Michael Bender titled Frankly, We Won This Election: The Inside Story of How Trump Lost.

According to Smith, Bender recounts a call between Trump and Carlson after the first debate last year, when Trump interrupted and harassed Joe Biden. Carlson is shown letting Trump go to voicemail and then tells him he didn’t do a good job on stage.

“Mr. Bender declined to comment on the sources that allowed him to so accurately reconstruct a conversation that only two people were aware of,” Smith wrote.

According to publicity material, Bender spoke to Trump. So have many other authors. Jonathan Karl of ABC News, author of Front Row on the Trump Show, told Axios on Monday: “If you thought there was nothing else to know, it was mind blowing.

CNN’s Brian Stelter, author of Hoax: Donald Trump, Fox News and the Dangerous Distortion of the Truth, told Smith that “you can see Tucker’s fingerprints all over the hardcover.”

But in a week when Carlson pushed Conspiracy theories About the Jan.6 attack on the Capitol, Stelter told Smith that they had not spoken through his pocket book.

Carlson called leading American journalists “animals” and “cowards” in April.

“I can’t overstate how upset I am,” he said. outkick, “Not simply because of the details of the medium’s lie, but disgusted by the emphasis. The media is basically the Praetorian Guard for the ruling class … I really hate them for that, I’ll be honest. “

In detailing the collapse of the Times and Politico stories criticizing Carlson under attack from the presenter, Smith compared Carlson to Trump and Joe McCarthy. The Wisconsin senator fueled anti-communist hysteria in the 1950s and was recently the subject of a biography titled Demagogue.

Carlson told Smith, “I don’t know of any gossip.”

But Smith said he spoke to 16 journalists from publications other than the Times.

A “reporter for a prominent publication who talks to Carlson regularly” said: “The general public is unaware of how much he plays on both sides.”

Another said: “If you open up as a resource to reporters from the mainstream media, you don’t even have to ask them to be soft on you.”

Smith said he would not reveal the content of his own unofficial conversations with Carlson.
