Freedom at every tide: why you should start recreational sailing

There is no doubt that many things in life can be very exhausting. For example, your job had you talking to customers over the last month doing promotions for their products. There may be other things related to work, like the stress of being with family. By no means is family a curse for parents, but they know that this is not easy.

These events have one thing in common: the need to escape and put aside all worries for a moment in time. Of course, responsibilities are essential, but having that moment to de-stress does extraordinary things for us. However, even if only done once in a while, considerable activity can do wonders for the soul. One of these activities would be sailing.

It may seem strange to some people, but there is something about placing your boats in a body of water to soak up the atmosphere that is so special. However, there is more to this activity than sun and surf combined.

What is sailing?

By the simplest definition, sailing implies sailing on a ship or in a boat. However, much of sailing involves using the wind to move the boat. That is why the stereotypical boat includes a woven tarp or polyester fabric placed perpendicular to the boat. The wind is trapped here and the ship is pushed forward.

Of course, there is much more to navigation than just moving forward. The mast does not hold the sails to go in one direction as there is always a rudder. The boat can change its course when paired, depending on the person sailing.

Essentially, this is the ship’s steering wheel if these ships were cars on the road. One could also call them the “water chariots”.

Why do people surf?

With the amount of attention sailing gets, one still wonders why these activities are popular with a good number of people. The truth is that these reasons are the same as any other person would describe other hobbies. Think of activities like racing cars or something as homely as carving wood. One can include video games in the group as they all share some common properties.

However, there are unique things about navigation, something you won’t find anywhere else.

A great use of recreational time

Although these times decrease as you get older, downtime is an essential part of our lives. Imagine a moment in time when you have done everything possible, possibly work-related, and have a significant amount of time to spend. It could be a weekend or company-sponsored vacation day. Soon you will “die of boredom” with nothing to do.

The old advice is that you should stay busy until something important comes along. Some would go so far as to say that you are missing out on “life”. Fortunately, there are many activities to do to spend your free time, one of them is sailing.

With navigation, there is no feeling of idleness in your body. On the contrary, the sights and sounds are almost overwhelming but strangely perfect for anyone with downtime.

De-stress away!

Of course, working life is not as simple as one might think because it can carry a tremendous amount of burden. There is some salvation in reaching Friday afternoon as the time to relax has finally come. However, some may find that rest and sleep will not be enough to satiate the need to de-stress. Sometimes it may be better to find another activity to do, one that takes work off your mind without irony.

Sailing goes a long way in this regard, as it could be considered a source of “temporary freedom”. Even though it’s short-lived, the fun you’ll experience on a day trip is enough to mentally prepare you for another stressful week of work.

The “Freedom” from the Open Air

Being connected to water and wind, you would be right in thinking that this is an outdoor activity. However, just like any outdoor activity, you’ll feel a sense of “freedom” when you’re in the middle of it. In the case of sailing in a boat, this is because you feel a strong breeze that moves you and cools you down. Strangely, the somewhat violent collision of the waves and the ship feels liberating.

If that doesn’t make anyone feel free, one should consider the wonders of sunrise and sunset. The various sounds you will hear throughout your journey are something else, which is almost unique to this activity.

In essence, your outdoor experiences are plentiful and it seems the possibilities are endless. These activities will make you forget that you only had a few hours to enjoy the sun and the waves. The action itself tells you that you are free to do what you want and that nothing can stop you.

Why shouldn’t people surf?

However, you also need to understand the other side of the sailing world, specifically why you shouldn’t sail. With this, there are two specific reasons for hesitation. The first is that it is undoubtedly an expensive hobby to maintain. Please note that boats need great care when placed in the water. Therefore, they also need some maintenance to ensure that the boat is always in top condition.

The second reason is space, as boats are difficult to maintain for those with smaller residences. This also means that storing them is a hassle, and there seems to be no way around these issues. However, there is a solution that will make you want to browse.

A solution?

Fortunately, there is an option to small sailboat shop, and these are ships that could be disassembled and fit into pieces of luggage. Since they could fit in your bags, you could take them with you when you fly to places further away from the nearest lake or beach. These would also be great for those who do day trips for a few short trips. Then all you have to do is store them in the trunk of the car and mount them when needed.

In terms of maintenance there would be little to no problem as xCAT, MiniCat, Grabner and similar companies have made boats that are built to last. In case of damage, these do not take much away from the owners. A little DIY work would be more than enough to fix these issues.

With these solutions for sailboats or canoes, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t sail away and be free.
