Although fans of the HBO series already saw the end of ‘Game of Thrones’ in 2019, a controversial outcome that disappointed not a few followers, Readers of ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’, the literary saga written by George RR Martin on which the series was based, are still waiting for the end. The author, who has allowed many years to pass between the publication of each installment has promised again a “different” ending to the one seen on television and also He has confessed to being sorry for not having hurried in writing so that the history of the novels would not be overtaken by the television adaptation.

“Looking back, I wish I had gotten ahead of the books. My biggest problem was that When they started the series I already had four books in print and the fifth came out just as the series started in 2011. I had a five-book lead, and they’re giant books, as you know. I never thought they would reach me, but they did. They caught up with me and surpassed me, “he said in an interview with PBS.

Martin started writing ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ in 1991. The first volume, ‘Game of Thrones’, was published in 1996 and was originally conceived as part of a trilogy. Currently the saga has five installments, each of which laid the foundation for the series. ‘A Dance with Dragons’, the fifth and final book to date, was published in 2011 and it took Martin six years to write.. The author is currently working on Winds of Winter, the sixth installment in the series, and has plans to write a seventh and final book entitled Spring Dream.

Early in production on the series Martin hoped to be able to publish The Winds of Winter before the fiction ended. However, the fast pace of television networks and the need to maintain the enormous popularity of the production made producers David Benioff and DB Weiss not wait for the writer to publish the book, anticipating and offering an outcome that generated controversy and divided the fans.

Now Martin, who should not forget that he was involved in the script of the fiction and therefore in the outcome of the series, promises that beyond the obvious differences that the end of the books will have with that of the HBO production derivatives decisions made prior to the controversial last season -the absence of some plots and important characters in novels, such as Lady Stoneheart or young Griff, they are proof of this – the ending he will offer his readers in A Spring Dream will go “in a different direction” from what was seen on screen.

“That was all a bit strange, because when the series got ahead of me, I saw that it was going in somewhat different directions. I’m still working on the book, but you will see my end when it comes out,” he concluded.
