Getafe’s “surreal” trip to play in Elche

  • The footballers have had to push the cars that LaLiga has made available to them so that they can concentrate in a hotel near Barajas and leave this Monday to Alicante

The Getafe expedition that in theory will travel to Alicante this Monday to face Elche is experiencing a situation that, according to EFE sources from the Madrid club, is “surreal” because of the way in which the players have had to concentrate in a hotel near the Madrid-Barajas Adolfo Suárez airport.

Finally, the request this Saturday to LaLiga del Getafe to postpone the match for the second time due to the snowstorm to play it 24 or 48 hours after Monday has not been answered. The entity chaired by Javier Tebas decided to send vehicles to players and coaching staff to transfer them to a hotel near the airport to fly on the same day of the match to the scene of the crash.

At the edge of midnight, several members of the azulón club, among players and workers, had not yet arrived at the concentration hotel. And several of them had to pitch in and push the cars sent by LaLiga to avoid the slopes of snow and ice that did not allow vehicles to advance.

This was the case of the Togolese Djené Dakonam, Francisco Portillo and the Uruguayan Erick Cabaco and Mathías Olivera. The second published a video on his official Instagram account in which you could see images of a car stuck in the snow with two of Getafe’s players pushing between slips.

“Trying to reach concentration to play. I don’t understand anything, is it necessary?”Portillo wrote in a text attached to a video that Cabaco also played on a social network.

In Getafe they are very upset with the situation. After three days without training, they will have to travel improvised and without a clear arrival time on the same day of the match, scheduled at 7:00 p.m. At the moment, they do not know when they will fly and everything will depend on the weather and the normalization of flights at Barajas airport.

In addition, they regret that they have to face a match of maximum rivalry without having trained three days in a row. The meeting, which was initially scheduled for Sunday, was moved to Monday due to the impossibility of traveling on Saturday due to the snowstorm that fell on the community of Madrid.

The public requests of Ángel Torres to postpone the match again have not been heeded so far. For the president of Getafe it was better to play another day of the week and argued that Elche, who will play a Copa del Rey match next Saturday against Rayo Vallecano, has time to recover and face their commitment with guarantees.
