The president of the PP, Alberto Nunez Feijoo, has deepened this Wednesday in his hard line against the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, due to the open institutional crisis as a result of the wiretapping scandal with Pegasus and the affectation of State security, which for the moment has culminated in the dismissal of the director of the CNI. Feijóo has come to say that Sánchez is «a caricature of the Prime Minister», and he has stated, with the same hypercritical tone, that «he no longer has the image of prime minister (…), he simply has the image of a PSOE candidate, who intends to continue being president of the Government of Spain with any type of assumption of any blackmail from his government coalition and his pro-independence partners”, even if it is in exchange for “ending the international image” of Spain.

Feijóo, who has appeared at the regional headquarters of the popular ones, in Santiago, has contrasted Sánchez’s attitude with that of the PP, promising that his party will maintain the same line, with the only “commitment” to “defend the general interests of Spain” and “continue to pursue a serious and responsible policy, a State policy.” “The PP remains committed to national security, to the defense of the rule of law and to actions to guarantee freedom and security, in accordance with the Constitution and the laws,” he claimed. «We are going to defend the State from the opposition (…). If the Government does not serve the State, the opposition does », he has initialed. “We will continue working to offer an alternative (…) to the worst government of Spanish democracy,” she stressed.

Given the “deep concern” generated in the PP by the “internal crisis opened by the national government, regarding the security of the State”, Feijóo has decided to appear from the Galician capital -where these days he is attending the investiture process of his successor in the Xunta, Alfonso Rueda-, to charge against the Sánchez Executive for having “got entangled in a plot more typical of a science fiction series”, whose “episode” of the dismissal of the director of the CNI, Paz Esteban, a ” scapegoat”, “is one more step in the unjustifiable drift” of the Government. «Sánchez and his team live in a grotesque that does not stop and that compromises the image of Spain. Not only does it erode the democratic foundations, but it is an operation to discredit our institutions, perpetrated from the institutions », he accused.

After reviewing the events of recent weeks, with a “state crisis” as a result of a “political problem” with Sánchez’s partners, which “has weakened the Nation” and causes “shame” to citizens and “surprise and mistrust” In the international community, Feijóo has once again criticized that the President of the Government has prioritized his “survival” over the “health of the State”. “As always, he has chosen the path that he believes guarantees you more time» in power, «regardless of the price we have to pay for it»; because, he has reasoned, “he is not interested in anything that remains outside the walls of the Moncloa Palace.”

Next, the leader of the opposition stated that “Spain does not deserve a government” that has “made the crisis its natural state” and that he steals the explanations while “he goes out of his way to entertain his pro-independence partners”; and that he does not “deserve a president” who “hides behind smoke screens to cover the shortcomings of his management and the weakness” of his mandate. In this sense, during question time he refused to assess the Government’s plans for abortion, although in the end he did set a position, understanding that it is “current affairs” that Moncloa is trying to “mark” so that no one speaks of the institutional crisis.

«My priorities», Feijóo has refuted, «is to defend the Rule of Law, it is to defend the Spanish institutions, it is to defend the unity of the Spanish Nation and (…) it is to preserve the institutions of the State and that they are not used by the Government to stay in power. A government that he has assured that “it no longer seems to care about its image”, but has deplored that “is destroying the international image of our country», which attends «live and direct to a self-immolation of the Government that is seriously damaging Spain». “Its drift cannot and should not drag our institutions,” he warned. He sees it as unfair that, because of the Government, Spain is “a weak country from the point of view of its institutions” and that “it does not arouse trust with our partners.”

Even before the words of Feijóo, number two of the PSOE, were known, Adriana Lastra, called a press conference at the party’s headquarters on Ferraz Street to reply to the opposition leader. In very harsh terms, Lastra accused the president of the PP of having “the same excess as Casado, but at a slightly slower pace. For the rest, the same irresponsibility and the same lack of sense of State». The Deputy Secretary General of the Socialists affirmed that, contrary to what the PP said, that the Government of Pedro Sánchez, in the case of the wiretaps, “has acted at all times with the maximum transparency and the greatest responsibility.” Something that, in his opinion, is based on the fact that “as soon as the Government became aware of a security breach, it filed a complaint so that the corresponding investigation could be opened” and that, in his opinion, it acted “with transparency” given that the Minister Félix Bolaños made it known to public opinion. Regarding Feijóo, in addition, Lastra affirmed that “they made him president of the PP because he promised to cover up the corruption of his party and that is the only thing he has fulfilled so far. That is the only visible change in the PP». Reports Mariano Alonso.

Sanchez’s “Tantrum”

True to his style, the president of the PP has advocated “talking calmly and with the rigor and seriousness that is needed in these cases, avoiding nervousness, disqualification and tantrum of the Prime Minister in the control session», has alluded to the words dedicated by Sánchez to his party. Feijóo has marked distances with the attitude of the President of the Government and has followed the same line of a prolix appearance in harsh messages directed against the tenant of La Moncloa. He has portrayed him “disoriented, overcome by events and caught in his own contradictions, and blackmailed once again by his pro-independence partners.”

Sánchez, has abounded, «instead of listening to what our proposal is, he defames us». He has recalled that pacts and agreements have been offered to him, beginning with the economic crisis, with the highest inflation in four decades, and “his response from him has been a pact with Bildu”; and then they reached out to him in matters of national security, before the NATO summit in Madrid, and the reply has consisted of “dismissing the director of the CNI for fulfilling the mandates that she received from the Government.”

Feijóo, in conclusion, has guaranteed that the PP will defend the institutions, involved in a serious crisis, when “at this moment in Spain the Catalan independence movement is in charge” and “a party that what it wants is to fracture the rule of law ».
