A man said he was fired for being too fat, in his own words. This was after he and his family had moved 2,000 miles for the new job.

The Griffin family hoped to start a new life after leaving the city of Queensland, Australia, for a new home in Tasmania.

However, Hamish Griffin says he was fired just two hours after starting his job as manager at the Big4 Strahan Holiday Retreat park.

Hamish Griffin said his bosses told him his weight could be a problem when they asked him to move a sofa.

Griffin said: “They told me I couldn’t do the job because I was too fat.. They told me I couldn’t push a lawnmower or climb a ladder. I’ve been a park manager in North West Queensland for eight years, I’ve been doing the job for eight years.”

Although his job does require some maintenance work, Hamish says his role was more of a management position.

“Sure, you have urgent situations where you might be shorthanded, or you might have to go help someone, which is what I’ve been doing for the last eight years on a bigger property, in tougher conditions.”

As reported by the Lad Bible, park owners said Griffin’s firing was due to workplace health issue and that you could get hurt while working.

They also said that Hamish hid his health condition from them. That is, his overweight.

At this, Griffin said, “Why would I tell them? Having a few extra kilos, in my opinion, is not going to inhibit me and has not inhibited me for the last eight years in carrying out my duties as a park manager.”

The family says they only spent one night in their new home and opted to pack up and leave.

Hamish went on to say: “It was a shock. The night before, the boss and his wife visited us and welcomed us with a bottle of wine. That morning, my son had been playing by the creek. We were enjoying this paradise that was going to be our new home, and now I had to think about where we were going to sleep that night.

This wasn’t just a new job that we had lost. This was the loss of a new life. We had moved on for a new life“, he added.

So far, Big4 Strahan Holiday Retreat have not commented on this topic.
