Health accelerates vaccination with more than 500 doses on Three Kings Day

Health has kept all its teams active in the feast of the Magi to accelerate the nurses process in nurses homes vaccination against covid-19. Between nine in the morning and one in the afternoon, doses of the Pfizer vaccine more than 500 professionals and users of nurses homes from the province. Between them Balls de San Juan with 87 residents and 60 workers; Also, nurses home Savia de La Nucía with 115 residents and 60 workers; he Asylum Our Lady of the Virtues of Villena with about 70 people including assistants and the respite center for Alzheimer’s patientsSoloa from Alcoy with 17 residents and 19 workers. The list is broader and the vaccination campaign will also continue next Saturday to meet the objective, announced by the own Ximo Puig, to culminate next Tuesday the supply of the first of the two immunization doses in all the elderly centers of the Community. Including those that maintain active outbreaks, according to the minister Ana Barceló.

Vaccination at the Balls nurses home

These days the first cases of workers who refuse to get the vaccine have arisen in the province of Alicante against covid-19. The reasons they adduce are fear of an adverse reaction and distrust that the efficacy of the antidote generates due to the extreme speed with which the process to obtain it has been developed. Four of these refusals occurred yesterday at the residence Balls de San Juan out of a total of 60 workers. But the number of professionals who have chosen not to get vaccinated since Health began the process on December 27 exceeds ten and has occurred in some senior centers of different Health Departments of the province. Some have openly communicated their decision not to undergo the immunization process and others have simply chosen not to come on the day set for vaccination. At the moment they constitute a minority group. They do not even reac1%, butut they pose an ethical and health problem for which, at the moment, there is no specific regulation. Getting vaccinated is a voluntary act for both users and social health personnel in nurses homes. This is contemplated in the General Law of Public Health, in the basic regulations governing the autonomy of the patient and in the Prevention of Occupational Risks. In the case of nurses homes, the main source of contagion comes precisely from the workers since users do not maintain contact with the outside and, otherwise, they need to perform twPCsRs and undergo preventive isolation upon return.

The rejection of treatment is not occurring, however, among older residents. All those who maintain their mental faculties have decided to be vaccinated and those who suffer from neurodegenerative diseases have also been given the anti-covid dose by decision of their families.

Doubts about the method

Epidemiologists and Public Health experts emphasize the need to devote all possible health resources to the supply of the vaccineagainst coronavirus as soon as possible and as many of the population as possible, but they rule out, from the outset, modifying the method that is being applied throughout the country and that follows the prescriptions of the manufacturer of the Pfizer vaccine approved by the Medicines Agency. “Nobody in Spain has talked about changing the method of going in phases and putting the two doses in the indicated space of time,”Also, specifies Carlos ÁlMarketDardet, Professor at the University of Alicante of Preventive Medicine and Public Health. “As far as we know, the decision of some countries to apply a first dose to a larger number of people with the intention of having more people vaccinated does not seem to be indicated. The English are testing whether this will provide some immunity but I think this is not the time for government experiments. The manufacturer’s guidelines based on clinical trials of the vaccine should be followed ”,Also, says.

Also the epidemiologist specialist Jose Tuells points out that what is urgent at this time is to accelerate the rate of vaccinations for two main reasons. On the one hand, because “it will greatly reduce mortality”, which should be enough to vigorously prioritize the vaccination program in the Community and, on the other, because “the sooner it is vaccinated, the fewer mutations of the virus there will be circulating” the expert.
