Health orders to withdraw several batches of Kinder products

They are made in Belgium and related to cases of salmonellosis

The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN) has ordered the withdrawal of certain batches of Kinder products manufactured in Belgium after being informed by the European Commission Services through the European Food Alert Network (RASFF), of the withdrawal of these lots in relation to an outbreak of food poisoning in several countries caused by ‘S. Typhimurium monophasic’.

The health authorities add that they are collecting information to find out if there is any case in Spain related to the European outbreak. Meanwhile, they recommend that people who have the products included in this alert at home refrain from consuming them and return them to the point of purchase.

The outbreak has already caused eight hospitalizations and around a hundred cases -63 in the British Isles-. Those affected are divided between the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany, Sweden and the Netherlands. According to the British Health Security Agency, the majority of cases belong to children “under five years of age”.

In the case of having consumed these types of products from the affected batches and presenting symptoms compatible with salmonellosis (mainly diarrhea and/or vomiting accompanied by fever and headache), the authorities recommend going to a health center.

The competent authorities of Catalonia, where the company that distributes the products in Spain is located, have notified AESAN through the Coordinated System for the Rapid Exchange of Information (SCIRI) of the precautionary withdrawal in Spanish territory of the affected products.
