Home remedies to avoid nausea

Nausea can be easily avoided with home remedies and alternative medicine in general, as WebConsultas points out, which will benefit the patient since he will not have to invest much out of pocket.

Aromatherapy, acupuncture, acupressure and the BRAT diet are some alternatives with which nausea can be avoided or treated without resorting to conventional medications, but with similar or even better results.

Aromatherapy consists of the diffusion of essential oils in the environment for their inhalation for therapeutic purposes. Those who have gone through it affirm that it has the ability to reduce existing nausea.

This was supported by a 2016 study involving 123 people. This study found that inhaling peppermint oil may help reduce the feeling of nausea that follows surgery.

However, a comprehensive review from 2018 found that there is insufficient evidence to confirm that aromatherapy is an effective anti-nausea remedy. The aforementioned research is mixed, and more information is needed on the effects of essential oils and how they are used.

You can complement the use of aromatherapy along with medications for nausea and investigate its effects. It is preferable that pregnant women do not use aromatherapy since certain essential oils can promote contractions.

Acupuncture and acupressure

Acupuncture is a form of traditional medicine from China. It consists of the use of needles to apply pressure to specific points on the body to relieve pain and relax muscles.

Acupressure is similar, but does not involve the use of needles, but rather fingers or thumb to apply pressure.

A 2013 study noted that acupuncture could treat nausea and vomiting after an operation thanks to stimulation exerted on pressure point 6, or P6.

On the other hand, a person who wants to try acupressure can find point P6 below the wrist, on the inside of the arm. Applying pressure with your thumb or fingers for 2-3 minutes may help reduce nausea.

The BRAT Diet

The BRAT diet consists of foods that, in general, they are easy to digest and do not have strong odors, which helps a lot to prevent the feeling of nausea in people.

However, this diet is also characterized by being very restrictive, and by not providing all the nutrients that a person should consume. Because of this, the BRAT diet is not a long-term solution, and should only be applied when there is nausea.

If you are a person who experiences nausea relatively frequently, you may need to resorting to conventional drugs instead of home remedies according to what a specialist tells you.
