The Cardinals are heading to the game “Thursday Night Football” undefeated, but will play the game without one of their star players in JJ Watt.
The defensive end will miss this week’s primetime game with a shoulder injury suffered during the second quarter of the Cardinals’ 31-5 win over the Texans. He continued playing the rest of the game with the injury. He missed the Cardinals’ only practice this week on Tuesday, and then on Wednesday he was officially placed on the injury reserve list.
Wednesday night ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Watt will undergo shoulder surgery that will likely end the season.
Cardinals DE JJ Watt will undergo what will now likely be season-ending shoulder surgery, sources told ESPN. A date for the surgery has not yet been set.

Watt has 16 tackles (five per loss) and one sack in seven games with the Cardinals after being traded by the Texans in the offseason. Although Watt’s sack numbers aren’t as high as the Texans’, his role on defense has helped the Cardinals stay undefeated.

How long will JJ Watt be gone?
No details have been given on the severity of Watt’s shoulder injury, but he has played seven full games without showing signs of injury.
Watt was the first Cardinals player designated outside of the “Thursday Night Football” team tilt against the Packers. The decision was made after he did not participate in Tuesday’s practice, which turned out to be the only practice for the Cardinals in their short week.
Watt is scheduled to undergo shoulder surgery that will likely end his 2021 season; however, the date of surgery has not been confirmed. Once he undergoes the surgery, Watt will likely be out for the rest of the season.
