If out of the number of ringtones that the iPhone has preconfigured, there is none that you end up liking, there is a way to create a ringtone for the Apple device from an existing music file. We tell you how to do it.
It doesn’t matter what kind of music you want to have as a ringtone on your iPhone. You can bring a reggaeton song, one from your favorite movie or the one from the series that has you hooked right now.
That will not matter, all we need is the theme file that will be our ringtone and the Music app (iTunes on older Macs or Windows).
Another thing that we must be clear about is that the file that will become our tone be on the computer and not as an Apple Music track, that is, it can only be accessed through the Cupertino music system.
Once all of this is clear it’s time to make that song our ringtone.
Own ringtones on iPhone
To get the exact tone that we want on our iPhone, we must follow a series of steps, which are simpler than you think.
The first thing we have to do is start the Music app on our computer, either Mac or Windows, and from there follow all the instructions,
The song
Once Music is on, we need to choose the song, reminding you that you cannot create a ringtone from a song that is not explicitly in storage from our computer.
If by chance the song we want is in our iCloud library, we must download it by clicking on the arrow pointing down, whose location is on the bottom right.
In this way we will have the file on our computer ready for us to use it.
Choose Format and crop
To continue we need to change the import settings. For that we must go to Musicthen enter preferencesthen go to Records. At that time we click on the import settings button.
Next, in the drop-down that appears, we import the file with the option AAC encoding.
Once this is done, it’s time to go back to Music, click on the three dots on the far right of the track and choose Get information so that we can then click on Options.
We must cut the 30 second song to be compatible with the iPhone’s ringtone system. We can start at the beginning of the song and count the seconds until we reach 30, or select a part of the file with just that duration.

For the iPhone to recognize this file we must create one of type .m4rSo we have to do it ourselves. Double click on the file and change the last name of the file to .m4r as we have mentioned.
At that moment the system asks you if you are sure, having to click on Use .m4r and we continue, leaving the Finder window open.
It’s time to connect the phone
Now we must connect the iPhone by cable and very possibly, unless you have connected recently, it will ask you to put the PIN on the smartphone screen, giving Confirm in the computer.
