With an average price of more than 1.7 euros per liter of gasoline, even approaching 2 euros at some gas stations and more than 1.6 for diesel,
filling the tank is becoming a luxury for many. In fact, to the general crisis caused by the pandemic and the decrease in the production of barrels of oil in the OPEC countries, we must now add the recent conflict in Ukraine, so it is expected that these will continue to rise.
And, sometimes, ignorance or the way of driving causes us to spend more gasoline than we should, and, for example, driving efficiently can save us up to 20%. For this reason, experts from
AMV have compiled a series of recommendations to save on fuel consumption and
so that this one comes out cheaper:
1.
Driving: The way we drive is a fundamental factor when it comes to saving fuel, on many occasions we waste gasoline without realizing it, therefore, it is very important to bear in mind that we must avoid giving gas when starting and even more so, when cold, it is preferable to engage the clutch. In this way we will achieve that the engine rotates more freely and requires less consumption.
We must use long gears whenever possible, avoiding short gears, since these imply many more revolutions in the engine and, therefore, a higher consumption. It is essential not to brake suddenly, the ideal is to slow down, whenever possible, by going down a gear. In addition to lengthening the life of the brakes, by not giving gas, the injection system will cut off the supply of gasoline and consume less.
Nor give unnecessary accelerations. Every time we accelerate we must do it gently and not stretch the first gear too much, it is better to go up to second quickly and then go up progressively, the accelerations must be gradual. We should never speed up while we are stopped at a traffic light or a stop sign. In addition to paying for the engine at traffic lights whenever we are going to be stopped for more than 40 seconds.
two.
Aerodynamics: The more resistance to the wind we offer, the greater the fuel consumption, so adopting an aerodynamic position on the motorcycle is a good way to save, ideally on the road we should bring our head, torso and legs closer to the tank, Let’s put our elbows in and firmly grip the handlebars to have greater control of the front end. In addition, we must always use adequate equipment, so that as far as possible we do not oppose much resistance to the wind. For this reason, we must avoid wearing very bulky or loose clothing, it is advisable to wear a good fitted jacket, which in addition to helping us save fuel will protect us in the event of a fall.
3.
take care of the luggage: Also in relation to the previous point, if we are not going to travel, it is best to remove the rear trunk, the side cases or the tank bag, since in addition to not being aerodynamic they will also add unnecessary extra weight. In case of travel it is very important to make a list with the essential luggage, in this way we will not pack excess clothes for not having planned it before.
Four.
Choose roads in good condition and plan the trip: A road in poor condition affects the flow of traffic. If, in addition, we have to avoid potholes, cracks or potholes, it is more likely that we will have to slow down, which means more time and money on the road. In addition, the rims, tires or suspension may be damaged. On the other hand, if we plan the trip well, it will also allow us to save on fuel, since we will arrive more quickly and safely, every ten minutes that we increase the journey can mean an increase of up to 15% in fuel consumption.
5.
Refueling: There are a series of tricks when it comes to refueling that can save us money. The first is to take into account the day that we are going to do it, normally Monday is the best day and of course, always a few days before the bridges and start of vacations. Add gasoline early in the morning, which is when the temperature is lower, since the colder the gasoline, the more density it will have, as it warms up with the passing of the day, it will expand, increasing its volume and therefore, there will be less liquid in a liter.
When refueling, do not squeeze the fuel lever to the maximum, since the faster it comes out, the greater the percentage of it that will turn into steam. There is no need to wait until it is in reserve to add gasoline, since the less we have in the tank, the greater its evaporation will be, as it is more exposed to the heat of the sun and of the engine itself. And, finally, use apps to see which gas stations are the cheapest, but always close to our house or to the route we are going to take, it is not worth deviating many kilometers and then saving just a few cents.
6.
Tuning of the motorcycle: According to AMV experts, poor maintenance and poor tuning of the motorcycle can increase fuel costs by 40%. To do this, tires are key to minimizing fuel costs. If the pressure is not adequate or they have a defect, the motorcycle will have to make more efforts to work, which will mean more consumption. It is also important to keep the filter in good condition. An air filter that is dirty or in poor condition will cause the air to not flow in the correct way and will ‘burn’ more gasoline than necessary.
