How to see Thunder aircraft on display on Sunday

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — For the first time since 2001, the Planes of Thunder Static Display is returning on Sunday.

Several of the military airplanes that were flown in the Thunder Over Louisville air show will be on display at the Kentucky Air National Guard Base.

“It’s going to be an outstanding event. This year’s air show will showcase many aircraft we have not seen here at Thunder,” said Lt. Colonel Josh Ketterer, Director of Operations for the 165th Airlift Squadron and Director of Air Operations for Thunder Over Louisville.

The planes — and some of the aircrew who flew them — will be at the event between 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.

The event is free, but parking passes are required for the Kentucky Expo Center.

Tickets, which are going fast, can be purchased here. Shuttle passes cost $10, and the first 5,000 guests in will receive a commemorative Thunder wing pin.

It will be the first display since 2001, and its to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the U.S. Air Force.
