If you have tried to read a deleted message and you have not known how to do it, you are in luck, today we will teach you how to do it in two very simple ways. Join us in the process and learn something new.

WhatsApp is a very popular messaging application and almost everyone with a smartphone uses it. The Facebook-owned messaging app has more than 1.5 billion monthly active users worldwide.

WhatsApp is a feature packed app and new features are added to the app regularly. One of its basic features is the ability to delete all messages, whether private or group, at once.

It’s easy to delete all messages at once, without having to select messages one by one. However, you may have accidentally deleted some important messages and now you want to recover them.

Today we are going to see the ways to restore deleted WhatsApp messages for Android and iOS users. We will use the most recent backup to restore messages on WhatsApp.

Keep in mind that messages received after the last backup will be lost.

Recover via local storage

This method is only applicable to Android users and does not work on iOS.

Open your device’s file explorer.

  • Go to WhatsApp > Database. The database contains all the WhatsApp backup files that are stored locally.
  • Select the ‘msgstore.db.crypt12’ file and long press on it and click edit name. Now rename it to “msgstore_backup.db.crypt12”. We have renamed the file to prevent it from being overwritten.
  • Now, select the most recent backup file and rename it to “msgstore.db.crypt12”.
  • Now, Open Google Drive on your phone and tap on the menu of three vertical lines in the upper right corner.
  • Click on “Backups” and delete the WhatsApp backup.
  • Now, uninstall WhatsApp and reinstall it. During installation, you will be prompted to restore WhatsApp from a local backup as you do not have a cloud backup.
  • Select the file “msgstore.db.crypt12” and press the “Restore” button.
  • Your messages have been restored from your most recent backup.
