In numbers: Raptors guard Gary Trent Jr. is making history with his recent streak


“He’s a rock star in every sense of the word… He’s not in the mainstream. He is the flow”, leader of the Toronto Raptors Fred VanVleet said by Gary Trent Jr. after scoring 33 points in a comeback victory over the Miami Heat on Tuesday night.

Trent is in the midst of the hottest streak of his career, eclipsing the 30-point mark for the fifth straight game as the Raptors have won four of their last five.

That streak of 30-point games has put Trent alongside some great company in the NBA this season, in Raptors franchise history. Y in the history of the NBA, as a whole.

Five games with five or more 3-pointers – the most in Raptors franchise history

Trent has been a shooter from 3-point range.

The 22-year-old shooting guard has made at least five 3-pointers in his last five games, breaking Kyle Lowry’s record for the longest streak in Raptors franchise history (4).

Trent has made 31 (!) 3-pointers in his last five games, shooting a blistering 51.7 percent from beyond the arc. His shot chart over that span is a beautiful thing.

On the season, Trent is shooting 39.7 percent from 3 to 8.0 attempts per game.

After the win over Miami, the Raptors’ sharpshooter expressed interest competing in the 3-Point Contest at All-Star Weekend and with perimeter shots like this, it would be a mistake to leave him out.

Five straight 30-point games – tied with DeMar DeRozan for the most in Raptors franchise history

With his fifth straight 30-point game, Trent has tied DeRozan for the longest 30-point streak in Raptors franchise history.

Kawhi Leonard never did. Kyle Lowry never did. Chris Bosch never did. Vince Carter never did.

His remarkable scoring streak also puts him in the company of superstars this year, joining Joel Embiid, LeBron James, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kevin Durant, Trae Young and Ja Morant as the only NBA players to score more than 30 points in five straight games during the 2021-22 season thus far.

This might be the most impressive stat of all.

With five straight 30+ point games and five-plus 3-pointers, Trent has joined an exclusive group of three of the most prolific shooters and scorers in NBA history.

Gary Trent Jr. is very hot and doesn’t look like he’s going to cool off any time soon.
