The opposition in Alburquerque will register today Monday before two in the afternoon in the City Hall a motion of censure that will change the political course of the population of Badajoz. PSOE and Ipal (Independents for Alburquerque) have signed an agreement for the remainder of the legislature by which Ipal’s spokesman, Manuel Gutiérrez, will be the mayor until the next elections, scheduled for May next year, instead of Marisa Murillo, currently in the unassigned group.

Gutiérrez is expected to offer a press conference tomorrow to explain his project and the reasons for taking this step. As deputy mayor will exercise Juan Carlos Prieto, councilor of the PSOE. The new government team, made up of seven members, will not be released and each one will keep their job. In addition to the two mentioned, they are Raquel del Pozo, Javier Blázquez and Alicia García from Ipal; and Jesús Martín and Noelia Pavón for the socialist group.

The context that has led to this operation is a very deteriorated social climate in Alburquerque due to the municipal situation, with a bankrupt City Council, municipal employees who took several months to get paid and a corporation with thirteen councilors from which up to six of them have left. them in the last year and a half. In addition, this mandate has been marked by the PSOE’s loss of confidence in Mayor Marisa Murillo, who was expelled from her party in March 2020 and a few months earlier her authority in the Provincial Council was withdrawn.

Since then there has been a gradual flight of councilors that has been leaving those related to Murillo and former mayor Ángel Vadillo in the minority, who continued to exercise power in the shadows from the position of coordinator created for him a year ago, which was suppressed just a month ago, as well as the mayor’s salary. At that time the accounts were already giving so that the opposition, which dominated the plenary session with seven of thirteen seats, could present a motion of censure that would seize the mayor’s office from Murillo. Ipal with four and PSOE with three mayors admitted that possibility at the end of March of this year, when they already recognized that they functioned as an “informal coalition”. It was necessary to review the legal fringes and the conditions of the possible agreement because the economic situation of the Consistory, with 10.9 million euros of debt at the end of 2020, according to the Diputación, which did not make it very appealing to be in charge of it.

This morning that motion of censure is going to materialize with the registration of the necessary documentation and in the next plenary session the vote will take place that will allow a political formation outside the orbit of Ángel Vadillo to govern the town for the first time since 1995.
