The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) recommended that taxpayers verify the status of your refund through the online tool “Where’s my refund?” or “Where is my refund?” instead of calling the agency.

The IRS indicated in a press release this week that it is more likely to receive updated information on the tax refund this year through the application on the agency’s website rather than over the phone, as human staff to these purposes is limited.

As soon as 24 hours after receipt of an electronically filed tax return, the person can enter their information into the service to track the payment.

“Taxpayers can use ‘Where’s my refund?’ to begin verifying the status of your return within 24 hours after the IRS sends the acknowledgment of receipt of an electronically filed return or four weeks after the taxpayer submits a paper return ”, the IRS specified in the entry press.

“’Where is my refund?’ it’s supposed to provide you with a custom date after your return is processed and a refund is approved, ”the agency added..

The tool tracker shows the process in three phases:

1. Statement received
2. Refund approved
3. Refund sent

How to use the “Where’s my refund” tool?

To initiate the information request, the taxpayer must enter their Social Security or ITIN number, their marital status, and the exact dollar amount of their refund.

“The IRS updates Where’s My Refund? once a day, usually in the evening, therefore, you don’t need to check more frequently, ”clarified the IRS.

Reasons for delays in sending your refund

Although most tax refunds are issued within 21 days, some may take longer if the return requires further review.

The office clarified the scenarios in which this could occur.

• The statement may include errors or be incomplete.
• The statement could be affected by identity theft or fraud
• The return requests the Earned Income Tax Credit or Additional Child Tax Credit
• The time it takes for the IRS to issue the refund and deliver the bank to the account, as many banks do not process payments on weekends or holidays

The IRS said it will send a communication via mail to taxpayers if it needs more information to process a return.
The entity also insisted that people electronically declare their taxes and request that the refund be sent by direct deposit to expedite the process.

Complaints on Twitter about IRS delayed refunds

Despite the agency’s explanations for possible delays, dozens of users continue to share posts about the obstacles they have experienced using the online tool.

Under hashtags such as #Wheresmyrefund, #earlyfiler and #ineedmoney many complain that although they submitted their tax returns well before the first stipulated deadline of April 15, they still do not receive a precise response on the arrival of the refund.

Others question that although they already received the money for the third stimulus check of $ 1,400 that was processed based on the most recent tax return or this year, they have not received the refund corresponding to the same return.
