Conor McGregor’s retirement history

Believe it or not this is not the first time McGregor has teased his retirement from MMA.

In March 2019, McGregor teased leaving the sport again. After losing to then-UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov in 2018, his first fight with him since 2016, a massive brawl took place in and out of the octagon. McGregor wanted to wait to see how a fight with Nurmagomedov and then-interim lightweight champion Justin Gaethje went. Negotiations fell flat. After private messages between McGregor and White were shared on social media, McGregor decided to use an all-too-familiar tactic.

It is unknown what McGregor’s intentions are in this latest series of tweets. An old saying is relevant now more than ever: “Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.”
