Deebo Samuel is as tough as he looks. The wide receiver/running back was banged up during Saturday night’s playoff win against the Green Bay Packers, but he fought back and stuck with his teammates until the end.
Now, the San Francisco 49ers are headed to the NFC Championship Game for the second time in three years.
Things looked bad when Samuel tried to get to the sideline in the closing moments, hopping on one foot and then needing help getting to the bench because he couldn’t put weight on his right leg.
When Samuel and his teammates watched Robbie Gould kick through the posts to seal the win, the receiver seemed fine.
“He was outside celebrating with them [after the win]”head coach Kyle Shanahan said. “He seemed fine.”
Samuel provided an update to NFL Network’s Stacey Dales moments after the game concluded.
“My ankle sprained and I freaked out for a second, but I’ll be fine,” Samuel told Dales.
During his post-game press conference, a reporter asked Samuel how he was feeling.
“I was hurt the whole game,” Samuel said with a laugh, “but I’ll be fine.”
Earlier in the game, Packers linebacker Krys Barnes brought Samuel down after a 12-yard reception and the receiver was slow to return to the sideline.
“The guy caught me and hit my shoulder,” Samuel explained. “It was just a little sting, so I was fine.”
It appears that Samuel did not suffer any injuries that could jeopardize his availability next weekend against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers or Los Angeles Rams. That’s certainly good news for the 49ers, who are one win away from returning to the Super Bowl.
Report it.

17 exciting observations from the 49ers victory over the Rams in the postseason
My heart ached. My head throbbed. And I’m sure my blood pressure hit an all-time high. But it was worth it. The San Francisco 49ers, after trailing 17-0 in the first half, defeated the Los Angeles Rams, 27-24, in an exciting overtime game to secure a spot in the 2021 postseason. team stuck together and showed the kind of determination that championship teams show, it tells us a lot about the players and the coaches. There is no abandonment in this team. And despite all the criticism they’ve endured (some justified), this team deserves a lot of respect today. The 49ers started the season 3-5, then
Steve Young credits great workout, Deebo Samuel for 49ers turnaround, believes team can win it all
Things weren’t looking so good for the San Francisco 49ers in October. The team was coming off a four-game losing streak, and its lofty postseason hopes seemed more like wishful thinking. Then the season turned around. The Niners raced and, in the final week of the regular season, clinched a playoff spot. That streak, along with the upset victory against the NFC East champion Dallas Cowboys in the first round of the playoffs, has given the 49ers a lot of confidence. The team believes they can beat anyone. However, the next task is not easy. San Francisco will have to defeat the Green Bay Packers this weekend at Lambeau Field if it hopes to reach the NFC Championship Game for the second time in three seasons. Hall of Fame quarterback Steve Young wouldn’t.
49ers-Packers: Kyle Shanahan provides postgame updates on Deebo Samuel, Trent Williams
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke to reporters after his team’s shock playoff victory over the Green Bay Packers, the second in as many weeks. He provided updates on a couple of key players who have battled injuries in the game. Wide receiver Deebo Samuel left the game after a 12-yard reception in the third quarter. He was tackled by linebacker Krys Barnes, started walking toward the sideline, then stopped and went down. Samuel eventually benched under his own power and even stayed in the game. However, he came back out late in the fourth quarter, hopping on one foot toward the sideline. Samuel was unable to support his right leg and needed help to reach the bench. Shanahan didn’t sound too loud
