It is normal that The Adam project has reminded you of other movies: these are some of its references

The new action and adventure movie starring Ryan Reynolds and Zoe Saldana, which Netflix premiered on March 11, has been a success. And if you have seen it, surely there have been some scenes that have reminded you of something familiar. Spoiler beware.

Directed by Shawn Levy, the creator of the hilarious Free Guy, which returns to have Ryan Reynolds in the title role, accompanied by Zoe Saldana, Jennifer Garner, Catherine Keener and Mark Ruffalo, as well as newcomer Walker Scobell.

However, in this movie we can highlight several easter eggs and tributes to some of the greats of science fiction. Bearing this in mind and since The Adam Project is a time travel game, we are going to find references around this concept.

And it is that, its director loves to do this. We could already see him in Free Guy paying homage to many iconic video games or in Stranger Things (he also directed this great series) with the great display of love that he made for the 80s.

Star Wars inspired characters

Big Adam wielded a weapon much like a lightsaber; young Adam also played a video game his father, Louis, made that mimicked the sight of the X-Wings shooting at the Death Star as they flew through the trenches in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.

Finally, when Big Adam’s wife Laura led them into the forest to fight Maya’s temporary soldiers, he was very similar to Leia and company in the speeders taking out the Stormtroopers in Return of the Jedi.

Plus young Adam called himself Red Leader in the endinghonoring the leader of the Red Squadron, a title held by Obi-Wan Kenobi.

If you like series like Friends, The Sopranos or Game of Thrones, HBO Max has these and many more in its catalog.

The Adams and Back to the Future

When the two Adamses tried to figure out how to erase time travel in 2018, they were in a motel called Pine Ridge, a nod to the 1950s Twin Pines Mall and the 1980s Lone Pine Mall that Marty visited.

the adams they also had a modern DeLorean in Adam’s time jet, which jumped through wormholes the same way Doc and Marty did. To this we must add that Louis had a scruffy scientific look similar to Doc Brown.

You can now try Amazon Prime Video for free for one month and with no commitment to stay. On this platform you can watch series like American Gods, Hanna and Jack Ryan, as well as hundreds of exclusive movies.

Terminator and other science fiction movies

The oldest Adam he referred to the Terminator to explain what was wrong with his Maya-ruled timeline. He told his younger self that the doomsday scenario in James Cameron’s movie is “2050 on a good day.” Over time, he would try to avoid this dystopian future, becoming a kind of Kyle Reese and John Connor.

What’s more, young Adam piloted a drone wearing virtual reality headsets and gloves to take down Maya’s soldiers in 2018, somewhat akin to the Ready Player One contraption.

Adam’s game also mimicked The Last Starfighter arcade simulator, who trained pilots like the ones he would become. Notably, the beginning featured the ferns, lantern, and Big Adam hiding in a shed after jumping back in time to 2022, giving a nod to ET.

Finally, Adam’s pet dog was named Hawking, in reference to the late scientific genius Stephen Hawking.

superhero movies

Finally, we highlight the number of tributes to the world of superheroes in this film. And, Louis also took the elevator at the end when he was trying to destroy the particle accelerator, making a nod to when Hulk had to take the stairs after defeating Loki in Stark Tower.

Jennifer Garner, who played Louis’s wife Ellie, was also Elektra in Daredevil and in a solo film.

Other Marvel easter eggs included Big Adam telling the kid that the Multiverse didn’t exist, and Hulk and Deadpool stickers on the baseball storage container.
