JoJo Siwa has been plenty busy this year, coming off a history-making “Dancing With the Stars” runperforming on a nationwide tour, joining the judging panel of “So You Think You Can Dance” and, most recently, going viral for chopping off her signature blond ponytail.
But the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards wasn’t on her calendar, despite getting nominated for the sixth year in a row.
“A lot of you have been asking why I’m not at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards tonight, and the answer is very simple: I wasn’t invited,” the 18-year-old “Dance Moms” alum and recent ” DWTS” competitor shared in a video posted Saturday to social media.
“I’m not sure why, but I just didn’t get an invite,” she added with a shrug. In the video description, Siwa told fans she “didn’t want you thinking I didn’t want to be there. I would have loved to be there but I wasn’t invited :(”

Siwa later added in an Instagram Stories video that her 2021 song “One Chance” played during the show. “But still, they couldn’t invite (me),” she laughed.
USA TODAY has reached out to representatives for Siwa and Nickelodeon for comment.
Siwa has previously attended the Kids’ Choice Awards every year since 2017 – save for the 2020 ceremony, which didn’t take place in-person due to COVID-19, though she still won the favorite social music star award. This year, Siwa lost the same category as TikToker Dixie D’Amelio.
She signed a talent deal with Nickelodeon back in 2017, but called out the network last fall in a since-removed social media post, telling fans Nick was preventing her from performing a song from “The J Team,” her 2021 movie produced by Nickelodeon .

“I go out on tour in January,” she tweeted in September 2021. “My movie musical was just released (with 6 new original songs) … Nickelodeon told me today that I’m not allowed to perform/add any of the songs from the film into my show.”
Siwa isn’t the only star to speak out about not being invited to award shows this year. Last month, “West Side Story” star Rachel Zegler made waves after she shared on social media that she wasn’t invited to the Oscars, despite her film being up for seven awards, including best picture. Following uproar online, she not only attended but presented an award, and performed at the Grammy Awards a week later.
The 2022 Kids’ Choice Awards were hosted by Miranda Cosgrove and Rob Gronkowski. Winners included Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo and her “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series” co-star (and ex) Joshua Bassett, Zendaya, Tom Holland, Ariana Grande, Charli and Dixie D’Amelio, Ed Sheeran and BTS.
First Lady Jill Biden also made a video appearance honoring military children for the Month of the Military Child.
