La Liga and the Spanish teams (with one exception) also thrashed on YouTube

The future of football lies in publishing content on streaming platforms, whether in the form of interviews, training recordings and other formulas that bring football closer to the youngest. Another way of communicating and engaging is possible and in Spain we are having a hard time catching up, with one honorable exception.

We are clear that we are not going to watch football live on YouTube. At least not the important men’s leagues, since this year the women’s Champions League was broadcast through this platform (thanks to the DAZN channel on YouTube).

Despite this, football teams have been creating content for their official YouTube channels for years.. It is good to have television channels like Real Madrid TV or Barça TV, but the reach is too limited to reach the millions of potential followers.

Now The European Football YouTube Report 2022 developed by BuzzMyVideos has revealed that Spanish teams have a tough rival on the continent: the Premier League. The English league leads the ranking of visits on YouTube for European football in 2022.

The Premier League is the most watched European football league on the platform owned by Google, with 250 million views per month during the 2021/22 season, according to the data.

La Liga and Serie A (the Italian league) rank second and third, followed by the Bundesliga (German) and Ligue 1 (French). All four leagues got less than 100 million monthly views on YouTube. The difference is abysmal.

But not all are defeats. The report reveals that Fútbol Club Barcelona has more total views and subscribers on YouTube than any other football team in Europe.

Barça has accumulated more than 2,120 million views in all time, ahead of second-placed Liverpool, which got 1.59 billion views in all time. Manchester United (1,110 million), Manchester City (1,090 million) and Real Madrid (946 million) complete the top five positions.

Barça has 13.4 million subscribers and Real Madrid is second with 7.94 million, followed by Liverpool (7.37 million), Paris Saint-Germain (6.16 million) and Manchester United (6.06 million).

In the viewing index, Liverpool was comfortably in the lead with 722,879 views, beating rivals Manchester United, which got 404,327. They are followed by Arsenal (283,967), Barça (215,811) and Juventus (199,953).

Despite its high number of total views and subscribers, Barça could only achieve eighth place in this category with 15.59 million monthly views on YouTube. As you can see, we are in a good position but second at the European level.
