They signal in the Plaza Mayor and Gran Vía delimited security corridors that allow a rapid evacuation
Womad Cáceres 2022 starts tonight with four concerts and this morning the typical color that characterizes this event full of multiculturalism has been seen on the stage of the Plaza Mayor. The first four formations of the poster have come together to explain what their purpose is in this event that is going to put Cáceres on the dance floor after two blank years. Feminism is going to be present in the Womad program and one of the groups that carries it by flag is Les Amazones d’Afrique, which closes the concerts of this opening day tonight.
Its members are from Mali, Benin and Guinea and their debut album caught the attention of former US President Barack Obama, who included one of their songs among his 20 favorite songs of 2017. Fafa Ruffino, one of its members, explained this morning that with their music they intend to “awaken the conscience of women so that they feel stronger, thanks to music women listen, some wake up and realize that there are things that are not normal”. Ruffino has said that in one of her most massive concerts, in Glasgow, they managed to get women to approach the stage and occupy the first seats. That is what they also want in Cáceres, «that all women come to dance with us». His concert starts at 11:00 p.m.
They are preceded on stage by the Ayom, a band of musicians from countries such as Italy, Brazil, Angola and Greece who have blended Brazilian, tropical, Afro-Latin and Afro-Lusitanian sounds into their music. Jabu Morales has expressed this morning the desire to communicate things on stage. “Music is our hope,” he has said. They will go up to the big Womad stage at 9:45 p.m. and will be there until 10:30 p.m.

With tons of illusions in this event are also the Extremaduran musicians Darío González, who will present his first album ‘Quinina’ at 8:45 pm and the Shoul & Libra Loggia, some young performers of urban music and Latin rhythms who promise from 8 pm a concert full of collaborations. In addition to the musicians, the children’s workshops were also presented yesterday, by Moonmilk Arts, Inspirall and Snapped Arts, from the United Kingdom, which will take place from Friday to Sunday and will be exhibited in the parade on Sunday at 5:00 p.m.
security corridors
The Gran Vía and the surroundings of the Plaza Mayor already have security corridors painted with white lines that delimit an area that must be left free in the event that an evacuation has to be carried out. This is a novelty of the security plan that governs this festival. Little by little, Womad 2022 has been getting under way. On Paseo de Cánovas there are already 147 clothing and craft stalls open, 22 of which are owned by local merchants. It is a lower number than in other years, since there are no stalls in the Gloria Fuertes park.
The Peña del Cura, Plaza Mayor and Cervantes centers for the elderly have also been able to enjoy the ‘Readers of Worlds’ program as part of the World of Words activity.
