Foreign fans face Tokyo Olympics ban, news agency reports
The Japanese government has decided to host the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games without spectators abroad due to public fears about the possible spread of Covid-19, the Kyodo news agency reported, citing officials with knowledge of the matter.
The torch relay opening ceremony on March 25 will also be held without spectators, according to the agency.
“The organizing committee has decided that it is essential to hold the ceremony in the northeastern prefecture of Fukushima behind closed doors, allowing only participants and guests to participate in the event, to avoid large crowds forming amid the pandemic,” Kyodo reported .
