Manchester United vs. Liverpool live score, updates, English Premier League highlights

Manchester United risk the top three falling away from them by just a third of the new English Premier League season, unless they can beat Liverpool at home on matchday nine.

The Red Devils are in seventh place (14 points), but are already eight points behind leaders Chelsea. A loss to Liverpool, third (18 points), would also widen the gap between them and their Premier League rivals to seven points.

The match will also be a face-to-face between two of the most fit superstars of the moment: Cristiano Ronaldo (six goals in eight games) and Mohamed Salah (12 goals in 11 games) have been the offensive forces of their respective teams, and the talk of the football world for the past two months.

Choose: Liverpool over 5.5 shots on target -115

Choosing a side is difficult in this place. Liverpool are clearly the best team at the moment, but Man United has been known to put in great performances when the Red Devils have their backs to the wall. So playing a prop team is the chosen alternative here.

Going into Matchday 9, Liverpool have scored the most goals and generated the most shots on goal of any Premier League team. It’s no wonder why: in addition to Salah, his attacking players have been in good shape. They will face a Man United team that has allowed the 10th most shots on target in the league (34) with the third highest percentage of shots on target allowed (34.7%), for FBref.

MORE: Wild ending in Man United vs. Atalanta match

In the 12 games played in all competitions, Liverpool have only failed to score six or more shots on goal on five occasions: two of them were against Norwich City, and the other three occurred in the most even matches of the season: in Brentford. (4), against Manchester City (3) and Atlético de Madrid (5).

Given how porous Man United have proven to be, just one shutout in 12 games, and especially without their best defensive signing Raphael Varane, Liverpool’s 5.5+ shots on target at -115 make for an interesting play.

Prediction: Manchester United 1, Liverpool 2

  • Money line: Manchester United +200 / Draw +265 / Liverpool +130
  • Spread: Manchester United +0.5 (-145) / Liverpool -0.5 (+130)
  • O / U 2.5 total goals : More than -200 / Less than +160
  • Both teams will score: Yes -245 / No +185
