Maritime links between Spain and Morocco reopen


Maritime links for passengers between the Cadiz ports of Algeciras Y Fee and Moroccans from Tangier-Med Y Tangier-Villerespectively, have restored activity this Tuesday a little more than two years after these routes were suspended.

The boats with passengers from these ports to Morocco, the most used in the OPE (Operation Crossing the Strait), were suspended on March 13, 2020 due to the covid pandemic.

the ferry”Tangier Express”, of the shipping company FRS has been the first to make its departure this Tuesday, a little after 11:00 a.m., with a smaller passage than usual on this line, due to the fact that the announcement of the resumption of the same occurred this Monday .

This first day has undergone various variations in terms of ship departure times, since these have been adapted to the possibilities of the shipping companies in coordination with the ports involved.

In the case of FRS, two departures per day are planned from Algeciras to Tanger-Med, at 10.30 and to the 5:00 p.m..

Similarly, FRS plans two other departures per day on the link between Tarifa and Tangier-Ville, with departures from the tarifeña dock at 11:00 a.m. and at 7:00 p.m.

For its part, Balearia reopens its operations with the ship “Poet Lopez Anglada”, whose first departure is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. from Algeciras and which will make another rotation at 7:00 p.m. from the port of Algeciras.

During this week only passengers traveling without private vehicles and only buses will be able to access the ships.

In addition, boarding is only authorized for travelers in possession of closed billspurchased before arrival at the port facilities.

Likewise, the prevention measures against covid are in force, for which the vaccination certificate is required or a PCR test carried out with a maximum of 72 hours before of boarding.

As of Monday, April 18, boarding with private vehicles will be allowed on both links, maintaining the same restrictions regarding the sale of tickets and sanitary measures.

This gradual resumption of transit through the Strait was agreed upon at a meeting at the Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras (APBA)entity that manages both ports, together with representatives of shipping companies, service companies and other companies in the sector, as well as the Maritime Captaincy.
