Lowell, Massachusetts, woman accused of letting newborn baby die in Maine woods in 1985

A Lowell, Massachusetts woman is facing a murder charge 36 years after she is accused of leaving her newborn baby in the frigid woods to die, Maine State Police said. The body of a newborn girl named Baby Jane Doe was found by a dog in the woods of Frenchville, Maine on Dec. 7, 1985. The dog brought the baby’s body to its home, but detectives tracked the dog’s path back to a gravel pit where the baby was born and abandoned in below-zero temperatures. Using advancements in technology including DNA and genetic genealogy, the Maine State Police were able to identify 58-year-old Lee Ann Daigle, formerly Lee Ann Guerette, as Baby Jane Doe’s mother. Daigle was indicted by an Aroostook County Grand Jury on one count of murder and an arrest warrant was issued. Daigle was arrested on June 13, waived extradition and was brought to Maine Monday morning. Daigle has been charged with murder and is currently being held at the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton.
