MERIDA, 2-TERUEL, 0

José Gaspar and Nacho González place Barrero’s team in the bronze category

Mérida has finished the full season and puts the icing on the cake with promotion to the First RFEF. Although he had to wait for extra time, Juanma Barrero’s team was a cyclone that devastated Teruel’s hopes. Gaspar and Nacho González scored the goals of promotion in extra time after finishing 0-0 in the first 90 minutes.

He came out wanting to resolve Mérida quickly and gave the first warning in the boots of Felipe Alfonso, but he left high. Teruel was not intimidated and immediately gave her answer. After half an hour Javi Montoya had his first intervention to save the Roman team.

Mérida tried to take control of the game and would see how the tie turned in its face. In minute 40, Teruel was left with 10 due to Carlos Javier being expelled with a direct red card for preventing Lolo Pla from advancing when he was the last defender.

Juanma Barrero’s men wanted to take advantage of their rival’s moments of doubt before heading to the locker room and Lolo Pla headed wide just before half-time.

The second half would begin with Mérida taking a step forward and Teruel waiting for their opportunity on the counterattack. The people of Teruel risked everything on the strategy, aware of the difficulty of enduring a close combat with the Roman legion.

The Merida team did not finish finding that goal that would put the promotion on track, but Teruel was reluctant to surrender.

In the 60th minute, Javi Montoya emulated Courtois with his hero gloves and saved his team with a header from Emaná from close range. The Aragonese team was scared of set pieces. Mérida was going through its worst minutes. Their numerical superiority was not noticeable against a leathery Teruel with the lines well together.

Barrero’s men got rid of that pressure with another header from Lolo Pla in the 66th minute, to which Tibili responded with a spectacular hand.

The match entered into an exchange of blows. A promotion was at stake, Mérida did not impose their authority and Teruel knew they needed a goal.

He squeezed Mérida a little more in an attempt to resolve on the fast track in the 90 minutes. But the match went into overtime. Another half hour ahead, which in theory hurt a Teruel who had been playing with one less for almost an hour.

And in minute 93 of extra time, José Gaspar’s golden goal came. Guille Perero put a millimeter center on the man from Cáceres at the far post, who free of a mark slipped it into the net. Overflowing joy. The ascent already touching with the hands. And the already deranged Teruel was left with 9 due to the expulsion of captain Cabetas when he attacked Bonaque right in front of the referee. Quite a symptom that he was already out of the game and his promotion options.

There were still ten minutes left for the first half and the entire second.

Higor Rocha was able to settle any concerns but his shot from the edge of the box took Tibili out for a corner, although he only had Guille Perero to his left. From that corner kick, a slate center that Mario Robles combs back to Lolo Pla at the second post, who in turn heads over Nacho González on the other side of the frame that he only has to clinch. The stands of the Olympic Camilo Cano de La Nucía were a real party with the nearly 500 fans from Mérida who traveled to Alicante. In the autonomous capital of Extremadura little by little they began to catch that joy.

The second part of the extension and all that remained was to savor the ascent and enjoy the moment. Mérida is First RFEF.
