Microsoft is advising you to uninstall a recent Windows 11 update that is causing multiple apps to crash. We tell you what it is and how to proceed to remove it from your operating system.
After its launch in October 2021, its impact and the percentage of users who have switched to this new version is not being as expected. And it is that, we are facing a new operating system that is still somewhat unknown, restrictive and with some failure than another.
In this specific case and to get to the point, We are talking about a problem due to an update. Specifically we are talking about KB5012643, which was published on April 25. This update is only available for users with Windows 11 21H2.
It is a cumulative update of the operating system with many but small changes. However, the problem lies in the interaction between the update and the .Net Framework that is part of Windows.
“Affected applications use certain optional components of the .NET Framework 3.5, such as the Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) and Windows Workflow (WWF) components”Microsoft explains.
For context, the .Net Framework is quite present in Windows and is used by various application developers as a code base that you can use. With this update issue, those apps will crash or not open with this one installed.
Despite this, from Microsoft give us a few simple steps to go back and remove this update and the problem I get:
- From the start menu look for Windows Update Settings.
- From that window click on View update history.
- Click Uninstall Update.
- Find KB5012643 and click uninstall.
Now, do not panic if this formula, for whatever reason, does not work for you and the problem persists. They also tell us that you can try enable the .NET Framework 3.5 in Control Panel.
And if you are more tech-savvy, you can try enabling the following command:
- dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:netfx3 /all
- dism /online /enable-feature /feature-name:WCF-HTTP-Activation
- dism /online /enable-feature /feature-name:WCF-No-HTTP-Activation
Microsoft has already issued a Known Issue Rollback (KiR) for this issue, so it should be fixed.
Although the company has introduced many positive changes, most users are having problems and they fear what might happen when an automatic update occurs.
For all these reasons, we recommend that you take special care when downloading optional updates, including both cumulative and driver updates.
