FINISH: Auburn 17, Missouri 14
Auburn holds on
Auburn’s first offensive drive ends with a field goal. Nathaniel Peat’s run ends with a fumble in the end zone and Auburn recovers.
That’s game. Auburn wins 17-14.
End of regulation: Missouri 14, Auburn 14
Harrison Mevis misses a 26-yard field-goal attempt. Overtime.
wow.
Mizzou has a chance
What is Auburn doing?
A fourth-down run results in a turnover on downs, and Missouri has a chance to win it in the final two minutes.
Mizzou’s defense needs one more stop
Another point means Auburn has the ball. Missouri needs to get one more stop to give the offense one more shot.
We’re entering the final minutes of the game. The Auburn Tigers are on the move.
Midway of the fourth quarter approaches
Missouri has the ball again after an Auburn punt. One sustained offensive drive would give the defense plenty of rest and any points on the board feels monumental at this point of the game.
It’s up to Drinkwitz’s offense to get it done.
End of the third: Auburn 14, Missouri 14
Mizzou-Auburn remains in a stalemate
Teams are trading points in the third quarter. Momentum is up for grabs. Either team can take it with a big play or a sustained drive. Auburn will punt again after a sack by Ty’Ron Hopper.
Auburn is down to its fourth-string quarterback as Robby Ashford exited the game with an upper-body injury while throwing a block on a broken play.
HALFTIME: Auburn 14, Missouri 14
Auburn had a chance.
MU’s defense fell asleep. After tying the game, Missouri’s defense couldn’t hold Auburn in the final 30 seconds of the first half. A late drive allowed Auburn to nail a 45-yard field goal, that was originally a 50-yarder. The second kick missed.
Mizzou ties the game right before half
With third and goal from the Auburn four, Schrader got MU to the one. Cook punched it in. It’s a tie game. Give Eli Drinkwitz credit for rallying his team down 14-0 to stay in the game and eventually tie it.
That drive was set up by the Missouri defense. MU forced another punt with a sack by Isaiah McGuire. That set up the ensuing offensive drive to tie it.
Mizzou gets on the board
When Missouri needed a big-time drive, it got one with its running attack.
Cody Schrader took a pitch on an option play for a nine-yard touchdown to make it a 14-7 Auburn lead. MU is back in it with that nine-play, 54-yard drive. The defense set that up by forcing a punt. Another defensive stop will have MU back with a chance to tie.
End of first quarter: Auburn 14, Missouri 0
Auburn cashes in on the pick
Just a few plays after the Cook interception and Missouri is getting shown up on the road for a second-straight time this season.
Tank Bigsby ran in a short touchdown to put Auburn up 14-0. Bigsby has attempted more rushes (10) than Missouri has run plays (6).
Cook gets picked
Brady Cook tried to hit Luther Burden on a slant, but the pass is tipped in the air and intercepted by Derick Hall. Auburn has it at the MU 25 yard line, and Missouri is a few plays away from being in a two-score hole.
MU Zeke Powell is also down injured after the interception following a helmet-to-helmet hit.
Auburn Strikes First
Robby Ashford takes a draw play and goes 11 yards into the end zone to put Auburn up 7-0 early. Auburn simply imposed its will on MU.
Auburn didn’t throw a pass. It ran on every play in its first drive and converted two fourth down plays with running back Tank Bigsby. MU needs a sustained drive or its defense will be exhausted in no time.
Missouri starts three and out
MU got the ball to open the game and went only two yards. Brady Cook was sacked on third and eight to force a Missouri punt.
Missouri’s offense line issues still remain as the defense will now have its chance to stymie Auburn.
Auburn picks its starting quarterback
After a week where its starting quarterback was up for grabs, Auburn has its QB1.
Robby Ashford was announced as the Tigers’ starting quarterback against Missouri. Ashford, an Oregon transfer, fills in for TJ Finley who will miss Saturday’s game due to injury. Zach Calzada, a Texas A&M transfer, will also miss Saturday’s game with an injury.
Mizzou injury report
There are two new names on Missouri’s injury report, with one player missing his first game of the season.
Elijah Young was listed as out for Missouri’s game against Auburn, meaning the Tigers’ running back room and special teams group took a hit. Young was a member of MU’s kickoff return and coverage teams, as well as a key player in the running back rotation.
The running back room might have to stretch its depth, as Nathaniel PEat was listed as probable. He’ll most likely play, however it remains to be seen how limited he is. Michael Cox and Taj Butts are two running backs that figure to get more looks behind Peat and Cody Schrader.
Young, Demariyon Houston, Chance Luper, Ky Montgomery and Hyrin White are out for Saturday’s game.
