The PP has yet to set a date for the party’s congress in Extremadura

The president of the Extremaduran PP, José Antonio Monago, has attended this Monday the first meeting of the party’s steering committee, which has been chaired by Alberto Núñez Feijóo at the national headquarters in Madrid. The new leader of the national PP has commissioned a report this week from the general coordinator of the party, Elías Bendodo, and the deputy secretary of Territorial Organization, Miguel Tellado, to celebrate “very quickly” the pending regional congresses, such as the one in Madrid, especially when key electoral events such as the regional and municipal elections of May 2022 are “at the door”.

This was announced at a press conference by the new general secretary of the PP, Cuca Gamarra, who has started her new position.

Gamarra has indicated that Feijóo has told them that he wants to “order the PP in a planned and rapid manner in terms of pending congresses”, given that they are “at the gates” of “very important” electoral appointments for Spain and the PP such as regional and municipal elections.

Congress in Extremadura

The PP has yet to set a date for the Extremadura PP congress, but also for the conclaves of the uniprovincial autonomies such as La Rioja, Asturias, Murcia, Navarra or Madrid. It is also to be decided if there will also be congresses in Catalonia and the Basque Country.

When expressly asked if the management committee had discussed the possibility of bringing forward the PP congress in Madrid as much as possible, Gamarra pointed out that Bendodo and Tellado had been commissioned to “quickly” present, if possible, this week “an analysis of the state of the different pending congresses».

“Madrid is one of the pending ones and like others, we are going to celebrate them very, very quickly, which is what is needed,” said the leader of the PP, to add that they are “at the gates” of electoral appointments “Very important” for Spain and the PP such as the regional and municipal elections.

As for whether the PP has in mind the month of May to hold the PP congress in Madrid –a conclave that has been demanding Isabel Díaz Ayuso for months–, it has reiterated that what has been raised is the need for there to be a “planning” that leads to a “rapid holding of regional congresses”, “being very aware” that the PP must be organized at the territorial level before the “key date” of the municipal and regional elections.

The also spokesperson for the Popular Group in Congress has explained that the objective is that “as soon as possible” the Popular Party can start working “with teams and with the best” and that they can “materialize the candidacies and electoral lists” .

As for whether or not there is a deadline for the continuity or not of the current parliamentary spokespersons (Gamarra herself now makes it compatible with the general secretariat of the PP), she has indicated that they have not addressed it this Monday but “there is time.”

Order the party

Having said this, he has asked for “tranquility” because today they have focused on the assumption of responsibilities of each deputy secretary. Next, he added that although this first steering committee has been “intense”, there are pending issues and they must “continue to order the organization from within”.

Of course, Gamarra has stressed that his formation does not intend that “the organic life” of the PP be the news because the party is going to focus on providing answers and solutions “to the problems that the Spanish have.” “That is going to be the priority and what we are going to be dedicating ourselves to 200%”, he exclaimed.

Succession

Asked when Feijóo is going to leave the Presidency of the Xunta de Galicia, Gamarra has stated that he himself will be the one to report on “everything that affects” the regional government, but not in the framework of a PP committee “out of respect for the Galicians».

“It will do so within that framework and not in a steering committee that is the internal body of a party,” he added. Last week, Feijóo already said that “from the first week of April”, immediately after being elected president of the PP of Spain, he would begin to “begin to specify” what is “the chosen formula” for his succession in the Board.

As for whether Feijóo wants to be a senator by autonomous designation and occupy a seat in the Senate, Gamarra has indicated that they have not addressed whether the president of the Popular Party “is going to be in the Chamber.”
