The australian Remy Gardner (Kalex) claimed his first victory in the motorcycle world championship by winning the Moto2 Portuguese Grand Prix at the Portimao circuit, ahead of the Italian Luca Marini (Kalex) and the British Sam Lowes (Estrella Galicia 0’0 Kalex), while the Italian Enea “La Bestia” Bastianini (Kalex) won the world title.

Italian Marini surprised the author of the “pole position”, the Australian Remy Gardner (Kalex), who did not take long to regain first place, almost the same time that the race lost two of its protagonists, the Italians Fabio di Giannantonio (Speed Up) and Nicolo Bulega (Kalex), who He passed over his compatriot in the first corner of the race.

Gardner began to set his own pace at the head of the event, knowing that the main interest was behind him, in the championship fight between Italians Enea Bastianini (Kalex) and Luca Marini (Kalex) and Briton Sam Lowes (Estrella Galicia 0’0 Kalex).

Together with them or rather between them, the Spanish intervened Jorge Martin (Kalex), and where they were also Augusto Fernandez (Estrella Galicia 0’0 Kalex) and Arón Canet (Speed Up), who was penalized with a long double lap during the test for going ahead at the start.

With Gardner a few meters ahead, both Marini and Lowes overtook “The Beast” Bastianini, who, knowing his advantage in points, decided to control the evolution of his rivals from a position, the fourth, which was enough to proclaim himself Moto2 world champion .

Spanish Jorge Navarro (Speed Up), who was involved in a fall during the “warm up”, could not finish the season too well when he again went down in the race, as did Héctor Garzó, precisely the two protagonists of that fall during the last Sunday morning practice sessions.

In the eighth lap Luca Marini managed to neutralize and defeat Remy Gardner, as well as Sam Lowes, while Enea Bastianini, from behind, tried not to lose contact with his two main rivals for the world title, but neither Gardner nor Fernández made it easy for him and, from behind, both Marco Bezzecchi, Jorge Martín and Lorenzo Baldasarri, all with Kalex, were approaching dangerously.

In just two laps Marini and Lowes ran away from their rivals half a second and behind them Fernández and Gardner gained a few meters in the chasing group.

Luca Marini’s rhythm was very solid and Sam Lowes could not hold it, reduced by the pain in his right wrist, which led Remy Gardner to hunt him again and overcome past the half of the test to relegate him to third position while that the Italian had a second of advantage and the Australian began to recover ground with respect to him.

But in the last third of the race Luca Marini showed signs of weakness, of not being able to keep up the rhythm, and both Remy Garnder and Sam Lowes followed his wake, despite the monumental scare that he took at the exit of a curve, which did not daunt him in the least, although it took him a few meters away of the head couple.

Two laps from the end, Remy Gardner overtook Luca Marini in a clear attempt to get his first Moto2 victory and with a pace much better than the Italian’s, he got enough meters ahead to claim the victory ahead of the Italian and Sam Lowes. .

Bastianini’s fifth place guaranteed him the world title in a race that Jorge Martín finished in sixth position, with Augusto Fernández eighth, Xavier Vierge (Kalex), tenth, and Arón Canet also in points, fifteenth, despite having to complete a long double lap during the race for go ahead at the time of departure.
