Tonight’s NBA All-Star Night Moment was as easy a decision as it sounds.

Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant, who has never been an All-Star but is building a good season so far this season, added another All-Star-worthy moment to his résumé.

Facing the Phoenix Suns, who ranked first on the road, the Grizzles nearly missed one of their best wins of the season when they saw a seven-point lead with two minutes remaining.

Leading by two points with less than 10 seconds left, Suns star Devin Booker caught the incoming pass wide open at the top of the 3-point line, burying what would appear to be the three-pointer winner of the game to seal a return victory for Phoenix.

With just five seconds to go, Memphis had only one chance to avoid the lead and Morant made the most of it. Morant put the ball in the hands of his superstar and drove down the lane as four Suns players collapsed around him. The commotion didn’t shake the cold-blooded guard as Morant hovered in the air with the defenders wrapped around him, making a layup to hit the buzzer and win the game for the Grizzlies.

This capped a 21-point second half for Morant, who finished with 33 points, four rebounds and four assists on the night.

I mean, talk about the degree of difficulty – this image below was taken from Morant’s game winning shot.

The All-Stars make big plays, as we saw earlier from Booker on the other end of the court in possession. Morant, who is one of the leading candidates to make his first All-Star appearance this season, responded with an even bigger play than his two-time All-Star counterpart.

This continues what has been a great campaign for the third-year guard, who is averaging career highs across the board with 23.7 points, 6.8 assists and 5.5 rebounds per game. He has the Grizzlies playing far beyond anyone’s preseason expectations, going 21-14 on the season with the win, good for sole possession of fourth place in the Western Conference.

As you may know, team success can be as important as individual success when it comes to separating from other All-Star candidates, and Morant looks very worthy in both departments.
